DISNEY’S “FROZEN 2”-INSPIRED WINDOWS

Inspired by Disney’s “Frozen 2,” Saks’s center six windows of the flagship store will bring scenes from the film to life. The displays will depict Elsa and Anna’s extraordinary journey to discover truths about their past while encountering the four spirits of nature. Adored characters Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven will also appear throughout the vignettes as they champion the sisters along the way.

SAKS FIFTH AVENUE Celebrates the 10th BIRTHDAY of its Famed 10022-SHOE Salon

It’s been 10 years since Saks revolutionized the shoe industry with a shoe floor so big it needed its own zip code; the luxury retailer marks this incredible milestone with more than 75 exclusive styles, windows featuring custom designer birthday cakes, exclusive made-to-order programs, and moredownload (2)

On August 17, Saks Fifth Avenue will celebrate the 10th birthday of its famed 10022-SHOE salon. A pioneer in the footwear industry, Saks Fifth Avenue was among the first retailers to place a greater focus on shoes by creating a shoe department so big, the U.S. Postal Service granted the floor its own ZIP code―10022-SHOE. And now, 10 years later, 10022-SHOE is home to 110 designer brands―a number that has more than doubled since its inception in 2007; holds as many as 200,000 pairs of shoes; and has been expanded into 25 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Brands such as Jimmy Choo, CHANEL, Christian Louboutin, Dior, Saint Laurent, and Gucci, among others, have been with 10022-SHOE since the very beginning and will honor its 10th birthday at Saks with exclusive styles, made-to-order programs, custom birthday cake window designs, and more.

Throughout the past 10 years, Saks Fifth Avenue has held a constant and dominating presence in the shoe industry, selling on average 850,000 pairs of shoes per year, which equates to approximately 8.5 million over the course of its 10 year history―that’s enough “shoe footage” to travel up and down the Empire State Building close to 2,000 times!

Coupled with its impressive selection, 10022-SHOE has played host to many launches, exhibitions and firsts:

  • In 2008, 10022-SHOE was chosen to host the 70th anniversary exhibition of ruby slippers honoring the 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz,” which included styles by designers including Oscar de la Renta, Stuart Weitzman and Roger Vivier, as well as Judy Garland‘s original ruby slippers designed by Adrian Greenberg of MGM studios;
  • From 2008 to 2015, designers such as Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Edgardo Osorio of Aquazzura, Paul Andrew and Nicholas Kirkwood, among many others, made special appearances at 10022-SHOE locations across the country;
  • In early 2015, 10022-SHOE paid tribute to Disney’s live-action film inspired by the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella,” by collaborating, in partnership with Disney Consumer Products, with nine luxury designers―including Paul Andrew, Tabitha Simmons, Nicholas Kirkwood, Jimmy Choo and Salvatore Ferragamo―to create their own interpretations of Cinderella‘s famed glass slipper;
  • Later in 2015, 10022-SHOE made history with the launch of Manolo Blahnik’s first U.S. shop-in-shop in the United States; and
  • In 2016, Saks opened its first store dedicated solely to shoes—10022-SHOE Greenwich—located in the heart of Greenwich, CT.

The strength and growth of 10022-SHOE over the past 10 years is a testament to Saks’ commitment to the footwear category as well as our customers’ desire for the depth and breadth of our designer and emerging designer shoe assortment,” stated Tracy Margolies, Chief Merchant, Saks Fifth Avenue. “10022-SHOE is a landmark for shoe lovers in New York City and around the world for one-of-a-kind merchandise and experiences that they cannot find anywhere else―a core principle of Saks’ identity.”

Beginning this month, Saks Fifth Avenue is celebrating 10022-SHOE‘s 10th birthday with:

  • More than 75 exclusive shoe styles from powerhouse brands such as Aquazzura, Gucci, Giuseppe Zanotti, Valentino Garavani and Gianvito Rossi;
  • 12 exclusive made-to-order programs, including programs by Prada, Alexandre Birman, Manolo Blahnik, Nicholas Kirkwood, Roger Vivier and Jimmy Choo; and
  • 16 designer Happy Birthday 10022-SHOE cakes featured in the New York flagship store’s windows designed by brands such as Valentino Garavani, Gianvito Rossi, Gucci and Prada.

From Thursday, Aug. 17 until Sunday, Aug. 20, Saks will showcase a visual installation in its New York flagship, entitled “10 Galleries: A Decade of Shoes.” Each of the 10 installations will play off the 10022-SHOE exclusive items and trends and invite customers to discover, interact with, and celebrate all things shoes.

Notable footwear designers share memories about Saks Fifth Avenue and 10022-SHOE:

Designer Christian Louboutin speaks about his fondest memory of Saks’ 10022-SHOE: “Doing a personal appearance on the shoe level when it was first opened where women told me intimate stories about themselves and their shoes. It made me understand the desire of the American customer, their differences in their approach, and their taste for luxury.”

Designer Manolo Blahnik speaks about his fondest memory of Saks’ 10022-SHOE: “I think when we first launched our boutique in 2015―we had a book signing and dinner. It was an honour to meet so many women who loved my shoes … I love it [Saks]! It has always been one of my favourite stores, so beautiful and feminine!

Designer Sandra Choi of Jimmy Choo―a brand which first launched at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1997―recalls her favorite memory, designing the commemorative 2007 10022-SHOE stamp: “The custom Jimmy Choo stamp I designed for the inauguration of the shoe floor 10 years ago. It was designed to reflect the unique zip code that was created to mark the opening. It featured a sketch I drew of a signature pump, it was such a fun and original idea.”

Designer Nicholas Kirkwood speaks to his exclusive 10022-SHOE birthday style: “I wanted to create something completely different to celebrate the 10022-SHOE 10th birthday, but also something special, and I loved the idea of the interplay between masculinity and femininity so it was from there that I designed the Combat boot.”

Designer Paul Andrew speaks about his partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue: “Saks has been a signifier of style and sophistication since they opened their doors for the first time in 1924. When I launched my own brand in 2013, my very first order came from Saks. It was a surreal moment—and Saks will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason.”

Designer Edgardo Osorio of Aquazzura speaks fondly about Saks Fifth Avenue: “Saks is such an iconic shopping hub, especially the historic Fifth Avenue flagship, and it’s just amazing to be carried there and all over the United States … Saks was the first department store to buy AQUAZZURA in the U.S. and as one of our key partners, they have continued to believe in me and my designs ever since. Over the years the working relationship has blossomed into a friendship.

Check out Saks’ 10 top shoe trends in the upcoming Saks Fifth Avenue Shoe Book, which will be available in stores and on saks.com August 16. The exhibition is organized by Jeff L. Rosenheim, Curator in Charge of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Department of Photographs, and Maria Morris Hambourg, an independent curator and a former Met colleague who founded the department.

Irving Penn was born June 16, 1917, in Plainfield, N.J. Educated in public schools, he attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art from 1934 to 1938, where Alexey Brodovitch (a Russian-born photographer, designer and instructor who is most famous for his art direction of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar from 1934 to 1958) taught him advertising design. While training for a career as an art director, Penn worked the last two summers for Harper’s Bazaar magazine as an office boy and apprentice artist, sketching shoes. At this time he had no thought of becoming a photographer.

His first job on graduating in 1938 was the art director of the Junior League magazine, later he worked in the same capacity for Saks Fifth Avenue department store. At the age of 25, he quit his job and used his small savings to go to Mexico, where he painted a full year before he convinced himself he would never be more than a mediocre painter.

Returning to New York, he won an audience with Alexander Liberman, art director of Vogue magazine, who hired Penn as his assistant, specifically to suggest photographic covers for Vogue. The staff photographers didn’t think much of his ideas, but Liberman did and asked Penn to take the pictures himself. Using a borrowed camera, and drawing on his art background and experience, Penn arranged a still life consisting of a big brown leather bag, beige scarf and gloves, lemons, oranges, and a huge topaz. It was published as the Vogue cover for the issue of October 1, 1943, and launched Penn on his photographic career.

Penn soon demonstrated his extraordinary capacity for work, versatility, inventiveness, and imagination in a number of fields including editorial illustration, advertising, photojournalism, portraits, still life, travel, and television.

In his earlier work Penn was fond of using a particular device in his portrait work, replacing it with a fresh one from time to time. At one time he placed two backgrounds to form a corner into which his subject was asked to enter. It was, as Penn explains, “a means of closing people in. Some people felt secure in this spot, some felt trapped. Their reaction made them quickly available to the camera.” His subjects during this ‘corner period’ included Noel Coward, the Duchess of Windsor, and actor Spencer Tracy, most of whom complied readily. Actress Kerry Washington Unveils New Purse Design and Kicks Off Campaign to Raise Funds for Domestic Violence Services

Allstate Foundation @Purple Purse and @KerryWashington unite to battle domestic violence

Allstate Foundation Purple Purse® ambassador Kerry Washington unveiled her latest purse design to bring attention to domestic violence and financial abuse before an audience of community leaders, survivors and VIPs on Sept. 24 in New York City. In so doing, she also kicked off a month-long effort to raise funds for domestic violence programs nationwide.

Since 2005, The Allstate Foundation Domestic Violence Program has helped nearly 600,000 domestic violence survivors access life-changing financial education, job training and readiness and small business programs. One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. In 98 percent of cases, victims will also suffer from financial abuse, which means their abusers will deny them access to money and financial resources. Allstate Foundation Purple Purse, a public awareness and fundraising campaign, is aimed at creating long-term safety and security for domestic violence survivors. The purse represents the center of a woman’s financial domain, and purple is the national color for domestic violence awareness.89273ecf-b0a8-47eb-a1f5-fe7fb6ff6cf6.HR

Golden Globe and Emmy nominated Washington partnered with handbag designer, Dee Ocleppo (wife of designer Tommy Hilfiger), to create the 2015 Purple Purse. The limited-edition, on-trend clutch was created to encourage the public to talk about domestic violence and financial abuse. This year, the purple purse, retailing at $350, is available for purchase beginning Sept. 25 at select Saks Fifth Avenue locations and on Saks.com with 25 percent of proceeds supporting abuse programs.

I am proud to be part of a movement that empowers women to take back control and to rebuild their lives,” said Washington. “Through Allstate Foundation Purple Purse, we aim to break the cycle of violence. We hope women will carry this purse to show their support, and that domestic violence victims will be inspired to reclaim their independence.”7385196e-c6ba-4f76-92da-06f826ff7e28.HR

Domestic violence and financial abuse can happen to the women in our lives, including our sisters, mothers, girlfriends and co-workers,” said Vicky Dinges, senior vice president, corporate responsibility, Allstate Insurance Company. “Through Purple Purse, we are making the invisible weapon of financial abuse visible to the public, and we are working to ensure victims have access to services, such as legal counsel and financial assistance that can help them break free from abuse and recover.”

Recognizing not everyone can purchase Washington’s purse, Purple Purse charms are available for $10, with proceeds benefiting domestic violence programs through PurplePurse.com. Attached to gym bags, key chains and purses, Purple Purse charms are a great way for men and women to show their support for survivors. PurplePurse.com also includes Kerry Washington’s new 30-second campaign PSAfc024c34-6c28-4318-919a-bee1e3b32827.HR and tips on how to start conversations about this important, but sensitive topic.

From Oct. 1, through Oct. 27, more than 160 nonprofits will participate in the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge. Each participating organization will rally the public to raise funds. To encourage donations, the Allstate Foundation is investing $500,000 in Challenge sweepstakes and contests. When the month-long fundraiser concludes on Oct. 27, the public can continue to donate to Purple Purse nonprofits through the end of the year at PurplePurse.com.

If you or someone you know is in a domestic violence situation, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799 SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

Established in 1952, The Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by subsidiaries of The Allstate Corporation. Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations across the country, The Allstate Foundation brings the relationships, reputation and resources of Allstate to support innovative and lasting solutions that enhance people’s well-being and prosperity. With a focus on building financial independence for domestic violence survivors, empowering youth and celebrating the charitable community involvement of Allstate agency owners and employees, The Allstate Foundation works to bring out the good in people’s lives. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Luxury Shopping Event to be held at Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian & The Palazzo and Fashion Show, Sept. 19-20

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) will bring its popular Super Saturday shopping event to the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian & The Palazzo, and Fashion Show Las Vegas with unique spin. Hosted by Designer, Stylist, Editor and Author Rachel Zoe and husband and business partner Rodger Berman, the annual event, which New York Newsday called the ‘hottest summer event in the Hamptons,’ will launch in Vegas Sept. 19- 20, 2015.

OCRF’s Super Saturday designer shopping extravaganza, was created in 1998 by Donna Karan and the late Liz Tilberis (the late Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar US, who has since died from the disease). Super Saturday Los Angeles launched in 2014, and is hosted by Rachel Zoe and Molly Sims. In 2014, at both Super Saturday Los Angeles and New York, more than 2,000 people attended the events and raised over $ 4.1 million with net proceeds going directly to OCRF and its programs. Special guests included celebrities, influencers, designers, media, supporters and their families, and fashion lovers. The Hamptons event has been hosted by Kelly Ripa and Donna Karan while the LA event was hosted by Rachel Zoe, Rodger Berman, Molly Sims and Scott Stuber.

The exclusive Las Vegas weekend will showcase an assortment of special retail incentives from luxury brands including Michael Kors, Tory Burch, DVF, Fendi, Robert Graham, Melissa Shoes, Ted Baker London, Topshop, Links of London and Island Company to name a few. Most participating retailers will donate a percentage of weekend sales to OCRF.

A force within the fashion and design industry for nearly two decades, Zoe has been heralded as one of the most influential forces working in fashion today. In addition to dressing clients for a bevy of red carpet events, styling countless editorial spreads, and lending her vast expertise to brands, Zoe has authored two New York Times best-selling books, and is the Editor in Chief of The Zoe Report, her online style destination and newsletter. As a designer, Zoe makes her exceptional taste and expertise accessible to the fashion savvy with Rachel Zoe Collection, comprised of ready-to-wear, footwear and jewelry lines. Zoe will soon return to television as the host of her own late night talk show, Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe, which will debut September 24th on Lifetime. Attendees can also meet Rachel Zoe when she signs copies of her newest book Living in Style.

The two-day extravaganza will feature a VIP brunch at Barneys New York, a Pucker Up Bar, Canyon Ranch SpaClub pop-up spa, a Pepsi Lounge, and Sephora makeup touch-ups.  A signature gift with purchase — two complimentary show tickets to Rock of Ages — will be available for those who spend $750 (restrictions apply – see official event guide for complete details).
Fashion Show will also highlight not-to-be-missed runway shows on the center’s elevated stage, featuring Saks Fifth Avenue and top seasonal must-haves.

We are thrilled to bring OCRF’s Super Saturday to the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, The Palazzo and Fashion Show Las Vegas. Their support of OCRF’s research programs will further propel us in our fight to find a cure for ovarian cancer,” says Audra Moran, president & CEO, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the oldest and largest charity in the United States funding ovarian cancer research that leads to more effective identification, treatment, and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer, as well as related educational and support initiatives. Each year there will be approximately 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in the United States, and nearly 15,500 women will die of the disease. Currently there is no effective means of early detection.

“Vegas is the ultimate fashion destination. It’s the only place in the world where you can shop every top designer and brand in one central location,” says Janet LaFevre, senior marketing manager, Grand Canal Shoppes and Fashion Show. “Being able to bring Super Saturday to Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, The Palazzo and Fashion Show gives our guests a chance to enjoy incredible shopping, dining, and entertainment all while contributing to a significant cause. We are elated to announce this partnership and first-ever Vegas location.”

Since 1998, OCRF has awarded over $65 million to ovarian cancer researchers around the country. OCRF-sponsored investigators are developing innovative strategies for early detection; exploring the genetics that increase risk for ovarian cancer; understanding the underlying molecular biology of the disease; identifying new and better targets for treatment; and deciphering how and why ovarian cancer spreads, and how to stop it. OCRF also supports a national program, Woman to Woman, which in 2015 will be providing support through more than 20 hospitals around the country to women in treatment for any gynecologic cancer, as well as their families, by pairing them with survivor volunteers who offer one-on-one emotional support and mentoring. Lord & Taylor unveiled its annual world-famous holiday windows last night, with Fifth Harmony performing on Fifth Avenue at the retailer’s flagship store. During the holidays, over 250,000 people pass by the Lord & Taylor windows daily and between Thanksgiving and Christmas, over 8 million customers will visit the store. The windows are created by a team of over 50 people over the course of nine months. The windows sets weigh up to 2,000 pounds lord-taylorand are the only department store windows on hydraulics and are created in a workshop underneath the Fifth Avenue sidewalk and are then moved onto street level.

The annual holiday windows are our gift to New York City and I’m thrilled to share this special time of year with our customers” said Liz Rodbell, incoming President of Hudson’s Bay Company Department Store Group, parent company of Lord & Taylor. “Next year marks the 100th anniversary of our iconic Fifth Avenue building and as a New York City landmark, it’s fitting that this year’s holiday windows celebrate the city.”

The story begins with all of the excitement surrounding the holidays, from the celebratory preparations to the festive decor, including a scene from Lord & Taylor of customers shopping for gifts and getting ready for their holiday parties. Within the animated scene of the store, the classic, holiday shopping experience is brought to life, with aisles gleaming in enchanting ornamentation and an abundance of holiday gifts overflowing from the shelves. As you travel through the magically decorated store to the main floor, you will find Santa Claus interacting with children and families as they share their holiday wish lists. Men and women are fitted in their new holiday attire just in time to celebrate what was once a Lord & Taylor tradition of a leisurely afternoon lunch or teatime in the store’s famous restaurant. Following lunch, the shoppers then head to the opera or theatre to be regaled by the arts. The final window concludes the story with a couple celebrating a holiday evening together, exchanging gifts, and sharing a good night kiss after putting the children to bed.

Fifth Harmony joined the retailer in unveiling the windows and performed two traditional holiday songs as well as two songs from their recently released EP, Better Together. The talented group of women were assembled by television producer and music industry executive Simon Cowell, and have quickly become one of the most-talked about acts in pop music. Following their performance, Fifth Harmony made an in-store appearance, where they took photos with customers and handed out signed copies of their new EP. Continue reading

Stylewhile and Saks Fifth Avenue partner to launch innovative iPad App allowing users of various sizes to fit clothing to their body type before purchase

Stylewhile (www.stylewhile.com) is pleased to announce its partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue on the launch of a new iPad App set to change the face of online shopping by allowing users to fit clothing to their specific body type before their online purchase.

It is estimated that in the near future 25% of all retail shopping will move online, and the value of online shopping in the United States alone will reach an estimated $26 billion by 2015. Stylewhile is in the unique position to assemble product imagery from online stores and fit them on a model of a chosen body type to determine what will look best on the consumer. The company is anticipating this move by creating an entirely new way for customers to interact with online stores, offering a highly personalized experience that allows and encourages creativity, while also ensuring that consumers are buying the right clothes for their personality and body type. Not only can users virtually ‘try on’ clothes, but they can also use the App to select various items from retailers to create and style complete looks with the touch of a button. The innovative service will allow shoppers to enjoy the benefit of being able to mix and match multiple items and multiple brands to create their ideal outfit, perfectly suited to their body type.

Says Stylewhile Founder/CEO Jutta Haaramo of the partnership, “We’re delighted to partner with Saks Fifth Avenue on the launch of Stylewhile, and to offer them full exclusivity at launch. Both Stylewhile and Saks Fifth Avenue customers are women who love fashion and trying out new things. This new App will make their online shopping easier and more fun.”

At present, Stylewhile will focus fully on the iPad App, though going forward the company may look to expand into a web/Android version. “We want to build Stylewhile together with our users to make it something they love to utilize, so we are constantly analyzing their feedback,” says Haaramo. “Our dream is to build an App that helps women to find and buy the right items so that there would be a lot less of those ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments or ‘this looks different in person than it did online’!”

A wide range of international brands will be available at launch, including Diane von Furstenberg, J Brand and Vince. Saks Fifth Avenue will have full exclusivity for one month at launch, and will then have six months of exclusivity as the only luxury multi-brand retailer, though additional e-retailers will be included during this period. Shoes and accessories will be added to the App in early-November. Stylewhile is available in the App Store for iPads operating with iOS 6/7 and is free to download.
