Double World Premiere For Porsche at The Geneva International Motor Show 2015

Porsche to Highlight Two New High-Performance Cars for the First Time

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is celebrating the world premiere of two extreme sports cars at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show. The new Cayman GT4 is the first high-performance sports car belonging to the GT family that is based on the mid-engine coupes. Clocking a lap time of seven minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nürburgring, the new entry-level model makes a great debut.

The second new model is another exceptional Porsche that sets new standards on the racetrack. The world premiere will take place during the Porsche press conference at the Palexpo Arena in Geneva at 11:30 (CET) on March 3, 2015. A live webcast will be available in German and English on: http://porsche.gomexlive.com/. This vehicle confirms the sports car manufacturer’s commitment to high performance sports cars that manage to make a very special link between everyday driving and motorsports.

These two premieres continue Porsche’s tradition of presenting motorsport highlights at the spring car show on the shores of Lake Geneva. The 911 GT3, 918 Spyder and 919 Hybrid has all celebrated their debuts in Geneva in recent years. With the new Cayman GT4, Porsche impressively maximised the driving dynamics of the mid-engine sports car and positions it as the new benchmark in its segment. This high-performance sports car clearly stands out from the other Cayman models: the 3.8-litre engine, which is derived from the 911 Carrera S, produces 385 hp (283 kW). The completely new front end with lowered front spoiler and additional air outlet in front of the bonnet as well as the rear wing make it the only Cayman with downforce at both axles. The chassis, which features a 30 mm lower body position and an extra-large brake system, is set up for motorsports with components from the 911 GT3.

Porsche’s sales figures also continue to develop sportily. With about 16,000 vehicle deliveries to customers in January 2015, the sports car manufacturer continues its success of the past year. This corresponds to an increase of 31 per cent in comparison to the same month of the previous year. The 911 is in especially high demand internationally. More than 2,400 happy customers took deliveries of the sports car icon in January. In 2014, Porsche delivered nearly 189,850 new vehicles to customers all over the world – an increase of 17 per cent over the previous year.

Porsche’s sales figures were also very good in Switzerland, with about 39,000 Porsches owned by a population of approximately eight million. The steady growth is especially pleasing for Porsche. In 2014, Porsche delivered 2,871 new vehicles to Swiss customers, an increase of about 29 per cent over the previous year.

Established in 1984, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) is the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche 918 Spyder, 911, Boxster and Cayman sports cars, the Macan and Cayenne SUVs and Panamera sports sedans. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia since 1998, PCNA moved into a brand new, cutting edge building at One Porsche Drive in January 2015. This one-of-a-kind facility showcases a commitment to design and functionality, serving not only as an inspirational workplace for Porsche employees, but also a brand experience center featuring a 1.6 mile test track, human performance center, and event space. PCNA employs approximately 300 people who provide parts, service, marketing and training for 189 dealers. They, in turn, work to provide Porsche customers with a best-in-class experience that is in keeping with the brand’s 65-plus year history and leadership in the advancement of vehicle performance, safety and efficiency. PCNA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

Two Wheels and Still a Genuine Porsche: Porsche Launches new Bicycle Collection for Spring 2014

Porsche is synonymous with sportiness, performance and driving pleasure – attributes that apply on two wheels as well as four: Porsche is expanding its Driver’s Selection range to include new bikes, available from March 2014. The Porsche Bike RX, Porsche Bike RS and Porsche Bike impress through their use of innovative materials, and deliver a sporty ride both on the road and off it. The design is typically Porsche: The frames of the new bikes are reminiscent of the silhouette cut by the sportscars produced in Zuffenhausen.

Featuring a 20-speed gear assembly supplied by Shimano and 27.5 inch wheels, the new Bike RX is the ideal partner for off-road routes. The mountain bike’s high-end carbon frame blends stability with a low weight and outstanding damping properties, guaranteeing boundless riding pleasure in the great outdoors. A DT Swiss air-suspension fork and hydraulic disc brakes supplied by German brake specialist Magura ensure optimum control for every manoeuvre and on all terrain.

The Bike RS also features a high-end frame, with ergonomic components made from carbon, bringing the sport bike’s overall weight to just nine kilograms. A 20-speed gear assembly makes the bike ideal for particularly sporty rides through vibrant urban settings or on extended trips. What’s more, the XTR equipment provided by Shimano and the ultra-lightweight brakes supplied by Magura ensure complete exclusivity on the road, even without an eight-cylinder engine.

The Porsche Bike, in turn, features a Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub gear assembly, which permits the eight gears to be shifted with ease. A low-wear geared belt drive transfers the power to the wheels without making a sound, while the MT26 disc brakes provided by Magura ensure optimum safety – making the Porsche Bike the ideal companion when navigating through the urban jungle.

Another outstanding feature of the Porsche Bikes is the anti-theft label, applied as standard under the paint on the frame. The label contains a unique code and is intended to deter thieves. Should a theft nevertheless occur, this code can then be used online to report the bike as stolen. Registered bikes can ultimately be checked by anyone – online and while on the move – simply by using an iPhone app and QR code, making it considerably more difficult to sell on stolen bikes.

The Porsche Bikes will launch on the global markets in three sizes (S, M and L) from March 2014. Details of these and other products in the Porsche Driver’s Selection range can be found in Porsche Centres around the world and online at http://www.porsche.com/shop. Not all products are universally available.

The New Porsche 911 Targa: The World Premiere of a Modern Classic Featuring the Innovative Targa Roof

The new Porsche 911 Targa

The new Porsche 911 Targa

At the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit later this month, Porsche is presenting the latest generation of the extravagant 911 model to the public. This model is the first to combine the classic Targa concept with state-of-the-art roof technology. Just like the legendary original Targa model, the new model features the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar. But unlike the classic models, the roof segment on the new Targa can be opened and closed at the push of a button. When the button is actuated, the fully automatic roof system stows the convertible top behind the rear seat system, providing a real spectacle. The rear-weighted design of the PTM all-wheel drive fitted as standard is a typical Porsche feature, and guarantees that this latest 911 model also offers optimum driving dynamics on all road surfaces and in all weather conditions.

With these features, the new 911 Targa is presenting itself as a high-quality, innovative remake of the classic vehicle from 1965. The model shares a great deal in common with the 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet models; up to the window line, the technology and body of the vehicles is more or less the same. The combination of the wide rear end that is typical of all-wheel drive models, the Targa bar and the dome-shaped rear window gives the latest 911 an extremely sporty appearance and a low-slung profile. World Premiere For The Compact SUV From Porsche: The Macan

Porsche is expanding its range to include a whole new class of vehicle. The Macan is the first Porsche model to break into the compact SUV segment and is poised to set new standards in the field of driving dynamics and enjoyment – on both paved streets uneven terrain. The Macan combines the typical handling characteristics that Porsche has represented right from the outset: maximum acceleration and braking values, vast engine power, extreme agility and optimum steering precision. What’s more, all of these features are teamed with a high level of comfort and everyday suitability. The sporty DNA of the Macan, as with all Porsche vehicles, is also immediately recognizable in the design.

The Sports Utility Vehicle is unrivalled in its flat and broad profile on the road. The wraparound bonnet and gently sloping roof line accentuate the overall impression of sporty elegance and powerful dynamics. Many of the design elements have been taken from other Porsche sportscars and enhanced for the Macan, making it clear to see from the very first glance that the Porsche Macan heralds the first sportscar in the compact SUV segment. The Macan is “Made in Germany”, produced at the Leipzig plant. Porsche has invested 500 million euro in the plant and has established an entire production line there. The line is set up to produce around 50,000 vehicles per year – all manufactured with the utmost precision and to the highest level of quality. Just what you would expect from Porsche.

Porsche Macan Turbo

Porsche Macan Turbo

Three models comprise the Macan product range at market launch. The Macan S is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine delivering 340 bhp (250 kW) and also features an active all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. This all-wheel drive is fitted on all Macan models. A seven-speed double-clutch transmission transfers power as required and almost without any interruption in tractive force, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds (or 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package fitted). The vehicle reaches a top speed of 254 km/h, and its NEDC*) fuel consumption figures are between 9.0 and 8.7 litres/100 km, which corresponds to a CO2 emissions level of between 212 and 204 g/km.

The Macan S Diesel is the economical long-distance runner of the three Macan models. Its 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine achieves NEDC*) fuel consumption figures of between just 6.3 and 6.1 litres/100 km, which corresponds to a CO2 value of between 164 and 159 g/km. Nevertheless, the Macan S Diesel accelerates from 0 to 100 km in just 6.3 seconds (or 6.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package fitted) thanks to its 258-bhp (190-kW) engine, and achieves a top speed of 230 km/h.

As the top model in the Macan model line, the Macan Turbo is set to be the most powerful vehicle in the compact SUV segment. The 3.6-litre V6 biturbo engine, which is being used in a Porsche model for the very first time, achieves an unrivalled 400 bhp (294 kW) and catapults the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. With the Sport Chrono package fitted, it is even possible to achieve such a speed in 4.6 seconds. Although the top speed is 266 km/h, the Macan Turbo delivers NEDC*) fuel consumption figures of between just 9.2 and 8.9 litres/100 km, which equates to a CO2 value of between 216 and 208 g/km.

Its name comes from the Indonesian word for tiger. And the Macan really does live up to its name: powerful and ready to pounce at any time, yet light-footed and tenacious on off-road terrain. The latest stage of evolution of the all-wheel drive – known as Porsche Traction Management (PTM) – has produced one of the world’s most powerful drive systems. In launching the Macan, Porsche now offers sporty all-wheel-drive vehicles across an unprecedented range.

A glance at the performance specifications reveals that the Macan has been designed with agility in mind. Further unmistakable hallmarks of the vehicle include its proportions, de sign and the mixed tires on large wheels. The

engines, drive systems and seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) bring the vehicle’s characteristics to bear in dynamic and efficient fashion both on and off road, making for a true Porsche driving experience. The driver and passenger seats feature the low position typical of sportscars.

The range of equipment fitted on the Macan as standard is extensive, and includes the all-wheel drive, PDK, multi-function sport steering wheel with shift paddles, large wheels, high-performance audio system and an electrically operated tailgate. The list of optional special equipment offers further highlights, such as the air suspension system, which the Macan features as the only vehicle in its segment. There is also the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) system, which has been specially tailored to the Macan. This system distributes varying levels of drive torque to the rear wheels and works in conjunction with an electronically controlled rear-axle differential lock. The list of Porsche options includes the much sought-after dynamic high beam forming part of the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus), which continuously adjusts the headlight level in keeping with the traffic ahead and any oncoming traffic. independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers to protect themselves. They accept no advertising, not beholden to any commercial interest and pay for all the products they test. Using its more than 50 labs, auto test center, and survey research center, the nonprofit rates thousands of products and services annually.

Founded in 1936, Consumer Reports has over 8 million subscribers to its magazine, Website and other publications. Its advocacy division, Consumers Union, works for health reform, food and product safety, financial reform, and other consumer issues in Washington, D.C., the states, and in the marketplace. The organization’s income is entirely derived from the sale of Consumer Reports® magazine, www.ConsumerReports.org and their other publications and information products, services, fees, and noncommercial contributions and grants. The Ratings and reports are intended solely for the use of their readers.

For 2013, CONSUMER REPORTS took a different approach than in previous years for its annual brand report cards story. CR graded each automaker’s individual brands rather than calculating a single score for all the brands under one carmaker. For example, TOYOTA, LEXUS, and SCION models were each scored separately this year instead of being incorporated into one overall score for TOYOTA. The same was true for HONDA, FORD, NISSAN, GENERAL MOTORS, CHRYSLER and other large manufacturers that market several brands.

But back to the report card. While Lexus’ models are rarely sporty, the brand’s overall score of 79 was earned on a foundation of plush and very reliable vehicles. CONSUMER REPORTS currently Recommends 100% of the Lexus vehicles it has tested. Continue reading
