Banana Republic Shifts New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Presentation Timing And Expands Partnership With Global Style Ambassador Olivia Palermo

Banana Republic Launches Olivia Palermo Spring 2017 Pop-Ups at February NYFW and Announces a Fall 2017 Olivia Palermo Capsule Collection to Debut at September NYFW

More changes to the upcoming New York Fashion Week Fall2017/Winter 2018 Collections Show schedule were announced today. In addition to Vera Wang and Rodarte announcing their plans to show in Paris in March, other designers showing in Los Angeles (Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford and Rebecca Minkoff, among others) and this being the last time (in a while that) Proenza Schouler will be showing in New York City (they are relocating their next show– and the next one after that–to Paris next July during the Fall 2017/Winter 2018 Haute Couture collections show week), New York Fashion Week seems to be changing shape yet again. And I am sure that even more changes will be announced before the start of the shows in early February.banana_republic_logo

Banana Republic today announced that it will shift the timing of its NYFW presentations to be customer-facing when the collections are in-store and sees this as a natural evolution for the brand—among the first to offer See Now, Buy Now to customers a year ago—in service to customer demand for product as it’s shown.

On February 9, Banana Republic will celebrate its Spring/Summer 2017 collection with Olivia Palermo Pop-Up Shops at select Banana Republic stores. As the company’s Global Style Ambassador, Palermo has curated a distinctive pop-up experience in top Banana Republic doors. The pop-ups will reflect Palermo’s style from both an interior and fashion perspective, including personal touches that make the experience unique to her sensibility. An assortment of Banana Republic and third-party product personally picked by Palermo will sit in the pop-up shops year-round.

To kick off NYFW on February 9, Banana Republic will host pop-up celebrations at three store locations – SoHo (New York, NY), The Grove (Los Angeles, CA) and Grant Street (San Francisco, CA). Fans can meet Palermo at the SoHo event on February 9, or tune into Banana Republic’s LIVE 360 at 6 pm ET to join the party on www.bananarepublic.com. To top off February 9’s festivities, Banana Republic will be offering #BRSTYLERIDE – luxury lifts between select Banana Republic stores within New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, courtesy of BMW. Customers can get a ride in style with proof of purchase or use of #BRSTYLERIDE on social media.

As a further build to their partnership, Palermo and Banana Republic will reveal a Fall 2017 capsule collection designed by Palermo and the Banana Republic design team during the Spring/Summer 2018 Shows in September at NYFW. Supporting the brand’s goal to amplify awareness when collections hit stores, a private preview of the company’s Fall 2017 collections will be hosted for the long-lead press during February NYFW shows and then will be kept under-wraps until it is available for customer purchase in September.

I am so honored to evolve my partnership with Banana Republic with such a personal approach to both our pop-ups and capsule collection,” says Palermo. “We’re a great team and it’s truly been such a collaborative approach that reflects the synergy between my style and the brand.”

90s supermodel Jenny Shimizu makes a return to modeling for the launch of GIRL. An iconic image transcends convention and resonates with meaning beyond its surface. No truer words describe the work of Jenny Shimizu. More than a decade after stepping in front of the camera lens, the supermodel, actress and media personality has shined whether dominating the catwalk, working in independent cinema or serving as a judge on the hit Bravo reality show, Make Me A Supermodel.

Born in San Jose, California in June 1967, Jenny grew up in Santa Maria, California and attended California State University, Northridge on a basketball scholarship. She later moved to Los Angeles to open a car garage. Soon after, Jenny was approached by a casting director while saddling her motorcycle outside an L.A. nightclub and introduced to Calvin and Kelly Klein. The designers were looking for a singular, androgynous face to represent their new fragrance, CK One. She landed her first fashion show for Calvin Klein at the Hollywood Bowl, followed by the pioneering black and white ad campaign. After came Banana Republic’s “American Beauty” campaign by Bruce Weber, which cast Jenny front and center on a Times Square billboard. From there, Jenny worked for such designers as Versace, Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto, Donna Karan, Anna Sui, Thierry Mugler, Levi’s, J. Crew, The Gap, L.A. Eyeworks and the United Colors of Benetton. In addition, she also modeled in the world renowned Pirelli calendar and was featured in beauty campaigns for Clinique and Shiseido. Throughout the 90’s Jenny appeared in magazine editorials for Italian Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Allure, Elle, Marie Clare, Italian Glamour, French Glamour and the cover of Australian Vogue. Jenny has shot with fashion’s most celebrated photographers including Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Irving Penn, Steven Meisel, Michael Thompson, Mario Sorrenti, Michel Comte, Mario Testino, Ellen Von Unwerth, Paolo Roversi, David LaChapelle, Sean Mortensen, Dusan Reljin and David Sims to name a few.

Likewise, her image is exhibited in museums and books all over the world. Exhibits include The Model as Muse (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2009) and Catherine Opie: American Photographer, Retrospective (Guggenheim Museum, 2008); as well as a permanent exhibit at the Pirelli Museum. Books include Any Objections? by Mario Testino; Couples by Ellen Von Unwerth; The Art of Makeup by Kevyn Aucoin; Fifty Years of Fashion: New Look to Now by Valerie Steele; and The House of Klein: Fashion, Controversy and Business Obsession by Lisa Marsh.

In 1993 Jenny became personally involved with Madonna, after making a cameo in the music video “Rain” (1993). Then came Foxfire (1996), Jenny’s first feature film and leading role, cast opposite of former love, Angelina Jolie. Despite the flood of gossip she received, Jenny has never been shy or apologetic of her high profile relationships. While in her early 20’s Todd Hughes cast Jenny in the madcap, John Waters-esque murder mystery Ding Dong (1995) and in the early 2000’s the two reunited in The New Women (2001). Jenny’s recent works includes the award-winning feature film, Itty Bitty Titty Committee (2007) directed by Jamie Babbitt; two short films, Four Steps (2009) and Tools 4 Fools (2009); and the feature film, Bob’s New Suit (2009). Banana Republic and the Council of Fashion Designers of America Announce a New Partnership Supporting Emerging Designers Who Design and Produce in the U.S.

Timo Weiland Is The First Designer To Collaborate With Banana Republic and CFDA On A Limited-Edition Capsule For Spring 2016

Banana Republic and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced a new partnership dedicated to supporting emerging designers based in America who design and produce in their local cities.

With this partnership, Banana Republic and the CFDA are committed to supporting designers located in America and American manufacturing. The partnership will include two limited-edition collections sold exclusively at select Banana Republic flagship stores and online. The program will spotlight one New York-based designer, who will create a capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2016, which is designed, cut and sewn exclusively in New York. This is going to be followed by a collection from a Los Angeles-based designer, which will be designed and produced exclusively in Los Angeles.

We are proud to partner with the CFDA and its network of emerging designers and manufacturers,” says Marissa Webb, Creative Director of Banana Republic. “This new program is a great opportunity to provide mentorship and resources to help creative talent grow their business while designing and producing locally.

Banana Republic is a quintessential American retailer, which makes them the perfect partner to support our mission to help promote designers here in America and domestic manufacturing,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA.

For the first collaboration, Banana Republic will work with designer Timo Weiland, an alumnus of the CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program, on a womenswear collection for Spring 2016. The capsule will include twelve styles in solids and in custom prints, including dresses, tops, skirts and a blazer cut and sewn in New York by Sunrise Studio, a CFDA Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI) grant winner, and Sn Productions.

Co-founded in 2010 by Timo Weiland, Alan Eckstein and Donna Kang, Timo Weiland is a New York-based Womens and Menswear brand. Built around the ethos of creating clothes to live in, the collections are inspired by the multifaceted lifestyles of the designers and those around them. Drawing from a shared love of music, travel and contemporary culture, Timo Weiland presents an updated take on classic American sensibilities. Known for eclectic combinations of fabrics and detailing, the collection places focus on quality and wearability, while injecting touches of the designers’ distinct brand of playfulness.

Donna, Alan and I are honored to collaborate on the first CFDA X BANANA REPUBLIC CAPSULE COLLECTION for Spring 2016,” says Timo Weiland, founder of Timo Weiland. “Since launching the brand, we have designed, cut and sewn our core signature woven styles in New York with factory partners based in the Garment District. Building upon this Made-in-New York aspect has been an integral part of our business and our story as a brand.

The collection will debut at Banana Republic’s Spring 2016 presentation during New York Fashion Week in September, and launch at retail in March 2016. Founded in San Francisco, Banana Republic is located in more than 750 company-operated and franchise retail locations worldwide.

As part of Banana Republic’s partnership with the CFDA, FMI is receiving a monetary contribution that will be matched by the City’s financial commitment to the program. FMI, in affiliation with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, aims to nurture, elevate, and preserve garment production in New York City.
