Johnnie Walker Select Casks—Rye Cask Finish is a Scotch whiskey blend that showcases the best of Scottish blender’s Master Blender Jim Beveridge used whiskies matured for at least ten years in first-fill American Oak casks. He finished the Scotch in ex-rye whiskey casks, creating a complex new whiskey with rich layers of flavor starting with creamy vanilla notes and transitioning to a more spicy finish.

From the early days when John Walker first blended whiskies in 1820 to the unique blends created today, Johnnie Walker has always thrived on experimentation. I believe that whiskey is ever evolving and experimental in nature and I am pleased to present the first rye cask finished blended Scotch whiskey,” said Beveridge. “Johnnie Walker Select Casks is a unique style of Scotch that blends the flavor characteristics of bourbon and rye with some of the classic signature notes and smoothness of Johnnie Walker. The Glenlivet® Pays Homage to its Pioneering Founder with the Launch of its Latest Innovation: The Glenlivet® Founder’s Reserve

Almost 200 Years in the Making, The Glenlivet’s Newest Release in the United States Sets New Standards and Embodies the Spirit and Vision of its Founder

The Glenlivet re-introduces the world to its founder, George Smith, with the US release of Founder’s Reserve, a new, permanent benchmark expression in the brand’s core range. Founder’s Reserve is the ultimate tribute to George Smith’s original vision to craft the definitive, smooth single malt whisky: the single malt known as the original standard setter. (The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve will be available at selected retailers at a suggested price of $44.99.)

THE GLENLIVET® FOUNDER'S RESERVE Single Malt Scotch Whisky

THE GLENLIVET® FOUNDER’S RESERVE Single Malt Scotch Whisky

To truly celebrate the spirit of George Smith’s vision, The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve has been created using the time-honored distillation methods that he introduced almost 200 years ago.  In the early 1800’s the whisky category was produced without age statements, and distillers like Smith selected the liquid from a variety of aged casks. The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve replicates this freedom of choice.

With Founder’s Reserve, The Glenlivet’s perfectly-balanced and fruity house style is skilfully complemented with a creaminess and sweetness from the addition of First Fill American oak casks. The result is a single malt Scotch whisky of exceptional smoothness; the very quality for which George Smith’s The Glenlivet was widely admired and appreciated for in his day.

This expression is presented in a clear glass bottle that draws attention to the quality of the pale gold whisky inside. The Georgian Blue carton is both classic and contemporary in style and features George Smith’s signature, which provides stand-out appeal on shelf and honors Smith’s original style of whisky. Inclusion of the new The Glenlivet signifier, featuring the Packhorse Bridge that crosses the River Livet, appears on both the bottle cartouche and on the lid of the carton, demonstrating the brand’s rich provenance as ‘the single malt that started it all’.theglenlivet campaign

Founder’s Reserve is the ultimate tribute to George Smith, while also remaining true to the quality that Scotch-lovers expect from The Glenlivet,” said Laurent Cutier, Director of Scotch Portfolio at Pernod Ricard USA. “We are very proud to introduce this new expression and celebrate the man who pioneered our vision as being a brand that is the original standard setter in the single malt category and beyond.”

With George Smith’s original vision in mind, current Master Distiller Alan Winchester has chosen aged oak casks and American first-fill oak casks in the process of making The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve. Selective use of these unique casks helped provide a smooth, creamy sweetness that mingles pleasantly with the subtle flavors and complex fruity tones already present in this one-of-a-kind single malt.

The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve can be enjoyed neat, with either a splash of water or an ice cube added to taste. The Glenlivet is proud to introduce its first-ever branded cocktails, featuring Founder’s Reserve, setting a new standard for the single malt scotch category.

Go Healthy or Go Adventurous With Spiralizer Attachment For KitchenAid® Stand Mixer

The KitchenAid® Spiralizer Attachment includes five blades and offers nine combinations of spiralizing, slicing, peeling and coring. A fine spiral blade creates a thin noodle-like strand, similar to spaghetti, for using vegetables as a healthier alternative to flour based pasta, while a medium blade quickly and easily spiralizes potatoes for casseroles or zucchini for soups. Separate slicing blades can be used for creating spirals of fresh fruits or vegetables with little to no cores, such as sweet potatoes, or those with larger cores, including apples and pears. By using a combination of accessories, the attachment can perform several functions at once, including peeling, slicing and coring most fruits and vegetables. The spiralizer features durable metal construction and a storage case for convenient organization of both the unit and its dishwasher-safe accessories.  Available in June at a suggested retail price of $129.99, it is the first spiralizer to take advantage of the power and hands-free operation of a stand mixer.

KitchenAid announced the addition of a new Precise Heat Mixing Bowl that can be used as a traditional stand-alone slow cooker or with the brand’s iconic Stand Mixer to mix, knead, whip, stir and remove the guesswork from heating even the trickiest temperature-sensitive ingredients. It is the first product from KitchenAid to serve double duty as both a stand-alone countertop appliance and Stand Mixer accessory. Simply select a temperature ranging from 70 – 220° Fahrenheit based on two degree increments, and the bowl will maintain the selected temperature for up to 10 hours. A digital display shows the temperature and provides a timer for up to 10 hours. The glass lid gives cooks a clear view for monitoring the progress of dishes.

Jack From Brooklyn Sorel Lqueur (Cheryl Gorski/FashionManiac.com)

As a child growing up in the Caribbean, I had long enjoyed Sorrel as a non-alcoholic drink and as a “cure-all” for what ails you.

Likewise, natives of the various Caribbean islands have long known the hibiscus plant to be a potent spice, as well as for its other uses. Famous for its curative properties–and as a powerful aphrodisiac–the flower leaves are fermented, and served on festive occasions. Each island enjoys slight differences in their recipes, relative to their indigenous horticulture but one thing remains the same: It’s a damn good drink in every shape and form. So imagine my surprise and delight when I encountered JACK FROM BROOKLYN SOREL LIQUEUR (www.jackfrombrooklyn.com) at the Spring/Summer 2013 New Fashion Week Shows in September! It was like going home again and revisiting my childhood. So, what is “Sorel”? It is basically a sophisticated, hibiscus-infused liqueur inspired by the sorrel drink that is popular in the Caribbean. But it’s more than just hibiscus because it has complex background notes of cinnamon, ginger, clove, and nutmeg.

JACK FROM BROOKLYN “SOREL” LIQUEUR is expertly handcrafted in small batches from Brazilian clove, Indonesian cassia, Nigerian ginger, Indonesian nutmeg, Moroccan hibiscus, pure cane sugar, and organic New York grain alcohol. A modern twist on an exotic classic, Sorel offers a unique aromatic profile and a distinctive flavor, creating vast new options for both consumer and professional mixologists alike. Below you will find two drink recipes from the JACK FROM BROOKLYN website, but you will find even more at www. http://jackfrombrooklyn.com/allrecipes/.

SOREL LUQUEUR is just beginning to gain major traction and distribution around the country.  If you can’t find it locally, look for online retailers like DrinkUpNY to purchase a bottle. At around $33, this is a must-have addition to your liquor cabinet; it’s just that good. Add Sorel to your favorite drinks and recipes, and you’ll see why I—and so many others are so excited about this new product!

CALIFORNIA MILK ADVISORY BOARD CELEBRATES THE SEASON’S SMALL BITES TREND WITH BROCHURE SPOTLIGHTING NIBBLES, STARTERS & SMALL PLATES FEATURING CALIFORNIA DAIRY

From mini desserts to single bite appetizers, small plates are hotter than ever–and 2013 food trends reveal that these petite plates are here to stay with a continued evolution of smaller portions being featured at white tablecloth and quick serve restaurants. But this bite-sized trend isn’t just for dining out as more consumers are experimenting with their own small plates at home. The CALIFORNIA MILK ADVISORY BOARD (CMAB) is offering a free consumer brochure with tips and recipes for tapping into this trend for holiday celebrations or every day meals.

Whether it’s a love for Spanish-style tapas or an interest in eating smaller portions without giving up on taste, we’ve seen a lot of focus around creating mini bites at home on Pinterest and in food and lifestyle magazines. California dairy – everything from cheese to yogurt to ice cream and butter – is the perfect ingredient for making small plates bursting with big flavor,” said JENNIFER GIAMBRONI, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS FOR THE CMAB. “Our Nibbles, Starters & Small Plates brochure gives consumers a handful of ideas they can enjoy any time of the year.”

California is the nation’s leading milk producer and also produces more butter, ice cream, yogurt and nonfat dry milk than any other state. The state is the second-largest producer of cheese, which is available nationally under the REAL CALIFORNIA CHEESE seal. Ninety-nine percent of California dairy farms are family owned and that means consumers are supporting dairy families when they look for the milk and cheese seals when they shop. Continue reading

RING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH ROOTS

NEW COOKBOOK FROM AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR DIANE MORGAN SERVES UP NEW POTATO AND OTHER ROOT VEGETABLE RECIPE IDEAS

ROOTS: THE DEFINITIVE COMPENDIUM WITH MORE THAN 225 RECIPES by award-winning cookbook author DIANE MORGAN is available now, just in time for the holiday season. Roots is dedicated to Morgan’s love of root vegetables and features a chapter focusing entirely on America’s favorite root vegetable: potatoes.

Roots: The Definitive Compendium with More than 225 Recipes

When you combine the amazing variety of potatoes available at the market, with how versatile and easy they are to prepare, and then add how nutrient-dense and low in calories potatoes are, you have a real winner in the vegetable family,” Morgan explains.

Nutrient-dense they are: a single, skin-on medium-sized (5.3 ounce) potato has just 110 calories, more potassium than a banana and almost half your daily value of vitamin C (45 percent) and zero fat, sodium or cholesterol.

The United States potato industry was delighted to learn Morgan is a big fan of the spud and asked her to be one of their ambassadors for “Real Moms, Real Meals,” a Facebook community where moms are encouraged to share real dinnertime solutions.

As a mom of two myself, I am honored to have been selected as a ‘Real Mom’ and look forward to helping many moms become inspired to put a twist on their traditional holiday menus this season,” said Morgan.

As part of the partnership, Morgan shared one of her favorite potato recipes from the new cookbookSUNEETA’S POTATO CHAAT WITH CILANTRO-MINT CHUTNEY.  Chaat is a traditional Indian dish and perfect for bringing to a holiday gathering or even for serving as a pre-holiday meal appetizer, according to Morgan.

To chat with Morgan live, visit the Potatoes, Taters and Spuds Facebook page on Monday, November 26 at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST. Morgan will make a guest appearance on the U.S. POTATO BOARD’S FACEBOOK PAGE to share some of her new recipes along with make-ahead appetizer ideas and classic holiday fare for those upcoming family gatherings and tree-trimming parties. To join the chat, simply “like” the Potatoes, Taters & Spuds Facebook page and begin posting your questions and comments on the page wall at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST on November 26.

Also live on the POTATOES, TATERS AND SPUDS FACEBOOK PAGE is a “HIP HOLIDAY HOSTESS” sweepstakes in which users are invited to solve puzzles for the chance to win one of three holiday entertaining prize packs.

Visit www.potatogoodness.com for hundreds of healthy and creative potato recipes and to sign-up to receive our weekly recipe email to receive a new recipe in your email in-box each week.

The UNITED STATES POTATO BOARD (USPB) is the nation’s potato marketing and research organization.  Based in Denver, Colorado, the USPB represents more than 2,500 potato growers and handlers across the country and was established in 1971 by a group of potato growers to promote the benefits of eating potatoes. Today, as the largest vegetable commodity board, the USPB is proud to be recognized as an innovator in the produce industry and dedicated to positioning potatoes as a nutrition powerhouse—truly, goodness unearthed.
