Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Tres Generaciones Resposado
  • 0.75 oz Monin Vanilla Syrup
  • 0.50 oz Monin Cinnamon Syrup
  • 2 oz milk

Combine all ingredients in mixing tin and shake well. Double strain into cinnamon sugar-rimmed martini glass and serve.

Chocolate Crinkle Surprise

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Jack Daniels Black Label
  • 0.5 oz Hershey’d Chocolate Syrup
  • 0.5 oz Monin Toasted Almond Mocha Syrup
  • 2 oz milk
  • Dash of powdered sugar

Combine all ingredients in mixing tin and shake well. Strain into rimmed glass. Top with a mound of shaved chocolate and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Sugar Cookie Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
  • 0.5 oz Disaronno Amaretto
  • 0.25 oz Monin Vanilla Syrup
  • 0.5 oz Agave Syrup
  • 1.5 oz milk

Combine all ingredients in mixing tin and shake well. Double strain into green sprinkle rimmed martini glass. Garnish with nonpareil colored swirl and serve.

Maple Bourbon Pecan Old Fashioned

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Elijah Craig Bourbon
  • 0.25 Monin Butter Pecan Syrup
  • 0.25 Monin Maple Spice Syrup
  • 3 dashes Fee Bros. Black Walnut Bitters

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and stir well. Strain into caramel-swirled Old Fashioned glass.

Orange Spice Amaretto

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Mount Gay Black Barrel
  • 0.5 oz Disaronno Amaretto
  • 1.5 oz Orange juice
  • 1 oz Monin Cookie Butter Syrup
  • 0.75 oz Constant Comment Tea, concentrated
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Combine all ingredients in mixing tin and shake well. Double strain into iced Collins glass. Garnish with a slice of orange, cloves, grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick then serve.

Sparkling Peach Kolaczki

Ingredients

  • 0.75 Absolut Elyx
  • 0.25 oz St. Germain
  • 0.75 oz Peach puree
  • 2 dashes Orange bitters
  • 3 oz Moet & Chandon Brut

Combine all ingredients in mixing tin and shake well. Double strain into sugared champagne flute and serve.

This Thanksgiving, a magical march returns to the streets of New York City and to homes across the United States as the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® kicks off the holiday season with its signature spectacle of wonder. On Thursday, Nov. 23, the streets of Manhattan will come alive at the sound of “Let’s Have A Parade!” Ready to spread holiday cheer, the annual procession is sure to delight more than 3.5 million spectators and more than 50 million viewers nationwide with its traditional merriment.

Since the first march in November of 1924, the Macy’s Parade has captivated audiences and become synonymous with the start of the holiday season. For the 91st edition, the line-up will feature 17 giant character balloons; 28 legacy balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 26 floats; 1,100 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1,000 clowns; 12 marching bands and six performance groups.

The 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. from 77th Street and Central Park West. The procession will march to Columbus Circle, turn onto Central Park South and march down 6th Avenue/Avenue of the Americas. At 34th Street, the Parade will make its final turn west and end at 7th Avenue in front of Macy’s Herald Square. “A Holiday Treat for Children Everywhere” has been the guiding motto of this annual tradition for more than nine decades and is the mandate that continues to this day. Taking flight on Turkey Day will be the Parade’s signature giant character helium balloons. Since their introduction in 1927, these giants of the sky have featured some of the world’s most beloved characters. This year, four giant characters will debut including Disney Frozen’s Olaf, Illumination presents Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, PAW Patrol® and Jett from Super Wings™.

The balloon line-up will also feature the return of Harold the Baseball Player, a legacy Macy’s character prominently featured in Twentieth Century Fox’s iconic holiday film classic, Miracle on 34th Street. In celebration of the film’s 70th anniversary, the Harold heritage balloon has been recreated for this year’s Parade, painted in hues of black, white and grey, to look exactly as it did on-screen during a memorable scene in the 1947 film. In addition to Harold, the famed spokesduck, The Aflac Duck, will debut as an all-new balloonicle (a Macy’s Parade innovation of hybrid cold-air balloon and vehicle) and is sure to have fans quacking with joy and laughter down the route.

THE STAGE FOR ENTERTAINMENT

Floating down the route this Thanksgiving, the Parade’s signature floats transport spectators to worlds of wonder. Designed and created by the incredible artists of Macy’s Parade Studio, which include carpenters, painters, animators, sculptors, metal fabricators, scenic/costume designers and electricians, this year’s line-up of floats sets an unparalleled stage for entertainment. The painstaking process of creating a Macy’s Parade float is both a creative and technical endeavor. Macy’s Parade floats are often three stories tall and several lanes of traffic wide, but must collapse to no more than 12 ½-feet tall and 8-feet wide in order to travel safely from the New Jersey home of the Parade Studio to the Manhattan starting line via the Lincoln Tunnel each Thanksgiving eve. These creations are not only works of art, but also engineering marvels.

New this year is a Bellagio-themed train station with two 10-foot trains adorned with 1,200 red and white roses while four animated toy soldiers stand guard. The horticulture team at Wynn Las Vegas will also transform the resort into a winter wonderland spectacle with five distinct fantasy villages, with 33 beautifully embellished holiday trees, thousands of poinsettias in shades of ivory and gold and seasonal lighting displayed throughout the resort.

Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas will be getting in the spirit with students from Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Choir performing classic favorites in the Sky Lobby from Dec. 19-22. Patrons can indulge in an assortment of holiday sweets and tea at the Nutcracker Tea at The Tea Lounge from Dec. 1 – Jan. 4. For The Cocktail:

  • 3 inch finger of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 8 slices fresh jalapeno
  • 1/2 of a fresh green apple, sliced into wedges
  • 1 1/2teaspoons ground allspice
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • 3 ounces agave syrup
  • 6 ounces coconut milk
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 12-ounce bottles Stella Artois Cidre

To Garnish:

  • 4 peels of orange
  • 4 basil leaves
  • Orange blossom water

Directions:

In a blender combine all ingredients except for the Stella Artois Cidre. Blend on high until the coconut milk is whipped and frothy. Fill four highball glasses with ice and pour the frothed coconut milk over until it fills the glass two thirds of the way. Fill the glasses the rest of the way with Stella Artois Cidre until it just crests the lip of the glass. Finish each cocktail with two drops of orange blossom water, a twist of orange peel, and a leaf of basil slapped between the hands to release flavor. Continue reading

MASTER BLENDER’S SELECTION N°1: A unique signature

Creating Cognac requires patience and a constant dialogue between time, the elements, raw materials and skilled hands and minds. Little by little, each exchange gives rise to something precious that can only be realized through passion and a savoir-faire honed over 250 years of Cognac making.

With Master Blender’s Selection N°1, Fillioux captures the essence of his art. This one-of-a-kind blend captures a particular moment in time and embodies his constant quest for excellence, extraordinary sensory memories and a perfect knowledge of Hennessy’s reserves.

Fillioux and the Tasting Committee structured the Master Blender’s Selection N°1 by defining a first selection of eaux-de-vie. They then narrowed their selection down to 80 to 100 eaux-de-vie and grouped them according to their elegance, character and suppleness. The eaux-de-vie were then aged in both young and old French oak casks. When the time was right, the Cognac was bottled at 43°C – “cask strength” – in order to release its powerful aromatic tones as well as delicate, lingering spicy notes. Crafted as a single batch, it is a limited edition Cognac with a round and rich subtlety that has a bright amber color with a golden sheen. When it embraces both nose and palate, there is an unmistakable presence of lightly grilled, unshelled almonds and candied apricots with a faintly sweet flavor. This year represents only the second time a unique element has been used to animate the cover. In 1999, a Christmas tree glistened with butterflies thanks to a lenticular onset.

Barneys New York announces the launch of its 2015 holiday campaign, Chillin’ Out. Using its famed sense of wit and surprise to play up traditional winter motifs, the Barneys New York team worked with various collaborators to transform the Madison Avenue Flagship windows into a Chillin’ Out visual narrative, complete with 35-foot fully functioning ice locker which serves as a live frozen workspace. The idea of winter is celebrated through unique and unprecedented displays, which are brought to life through partnerships with world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly, Utah-based Ice Castles, artist collective Okamoto Studio, and luxury automaker Lexus.

Through the Chillin’ Out holiday partnerships, Barneys New York has pushed the limits of traditional holiday windows. The one-of-a-kind ice locker used for the Ice Castles and Ice Carvers windows was custom designed and built by the Barneys New York team to maintain the optimal condition for the integral component of these installations: ice. Updating the classic ‘Penguin Chase‘ with accurately scaled Lexus model cars, as well as using 3D digital mapping to illuminate the “Winter Brilliance” sculpture adds another level of unprecedented technical feats to this season’s windows.

The Chillin’ Out window installations have been amongst the most creatively ambitious that our team has designed,” says Barneys New York Creative Director Dennis Freedman. “We’ve challenged ourselves to reach new heights in terms of technical advancements, but ultimately it’s the beauty and visual impact that really counts. “The Ice Carvers”

A live ice carving performance in one of the Madison Avenue window displays integrates a surprising unique element to the Chillin’ Out theme. Partnering with the ice carving collective Okamoto Studio, the Barneys New York team created a stylized satellite studio for the carvers to create winter themed sculptures as a part of daily live performances. Starting on Wednesday, November 18, and running through Thursday, December 31, live carvers within the custom ice locker in the window will transform 20×30 inch blocks of ice into detailed holiday-themed sculptures. Barneys New York partnered with Moncler Gamme Bleu designed by Thom Browne to outfit the carvers in custom-designed metallic outerwear, which consist of a jumpsuit, vest, and blazer. Additional pieces from Moncler Gamme Bleu, including exclusive cashmere silver English rib gloves, beanies, neck warmers, and scarves, all of which will also be available at Barneys New York.

“Ice Castles”

To play on the idea of Chillin’ Out and traditional winter themes, Barneys New York has partnered with Ice Castles, a company known for creating large-scale ice formations typically set upon mountaintops, to build an installation within the confines of its Madison Avenue window. In order to properly execute the Ice Castles collaboration, Barneys New York designed an unprecedented fully operational ice locker within its display. The custom ice locker consistently maintains a temperature of 3 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, and utilizes a custom misting system, which enables the creation and maintenance of the ice formations. Using a process known as “Icicle Farming,” Ice Castles makes its own icicles and fuses them together to create an ice scaffold that is sprayed with water to form uniquely intricate and organic ice formations. With an ongoing misting schedule, the ice becomes a naturally evolving glacial wonderland in constant evolution over the course of the window’s installation. The Ice Castle installation is further brought to life through the choreographed use of light, illuminating the ice in translucent shades of blue, green, red, and purple. Accompanied by a custom musical score by Hannis Brown evoking the icy sound and spirit of winter, the monochromatic structure transports the audience into the depths of a frozen empire.

“Arctic Chase”

Meet Penny, the high-octane, thrill-loving, and very chill penguin who’s so cool, she inspired her own window, “Arctic Chase.” Beginning with the idea of the penguin, the Barneys New York team partnered with Lexus to reimagine a traditional and playful winter racetrack adventure with the iconic arctic animal. Referencing ZSL London Zoo‘s Lubetkin Penguin Pool and childhood games, the team commissioned renowned slot car designer Gary Gerding to build a racetrack – the first translucent slot car track Gerding has ever built out of polycarbonate. As three “Chilled-Out” crystal-covered penguins race around the track atop Lexus IS, GS F, and RC F model cars, which were 3D printed and also covered in crystals, an animated film narrative created by Invisible Light Network brings the full scene together. The action is accompanied by an animated short by Invisible Light Network entitled “Stay Cool,” which tells the story of Penny, our penguin heroine, racing her nefarious opponents, set to an imaginary world of ice formations, city structures, and ski lodges. Invisible Light Network uniquely mixed traditional animation, CG, pixel, and glitch into one coherent story, which will be displayed on theatrical screens provided by Christies Digital, and is set to a custom score by composer Amnon Freidlin.

“Winter Brilliance by Dale Chihuly”

Barneys New York has collaborated with renowned sculptor and artist Dale Chihuly to design a site-specific installation for another Chillin’ Out window. Entitled “Winter Brilliance,” the glass elements of the sculpture are representative of frigid winters, and appear as a grand crystalline explosion composed of individual hand-blown glass icicles. Several of the sculptural elements that comprise “Winter Brilliance” are suspended from the ceiling of the Madison Avenue window. The sculpture is set above a black pool of reflective water, giving the appearance it is frozen in midair. Barneys New York partnered with Christie THREE SIXTY to integrate the use of 3D digital mapping onto “Winter Brilliance.” One-of-a-kind choreographed lighting effects are projected onto the sculpture, creating the illusion of light on ice, snow, and moonlight, and adding a fluid and kinetic quality to it. The lighting cycle starts with pure white before moving into a sequence of snow flurries, ending in fiery display of red and yellow light projected onto the 700 hand-blown glass elements. The scene becomes an interpretation of fire and ice, accompanied by a modern adaptation of a score by Claude Debussy, one of Chihuly’s favorite composers.

In conjunction with the Chillin’ Out holiday campaign, Barneys New York will also launch a social media sweepstakes with a call to action for participants take a photo in front of any Barneys New York window display nationwide and post to Instagram tagging @BarneysNYOfficial with the hashtag #BNYCHILLINOUT. Winners will have their Instagram handle featured in an ice sculpture by OKAMOTO STUDIO in the Madison Avenue windows for 24 hours, and posted to the Barneys Instagram channel.

The 32nd Annual North Carolina Holiday Flotilla, Zambelli Fireworks, and The 11th Annual Enchanted Airlie officially launch the holiday season Thanksgiving weekend in Wrightsville Beach. As if by design, a full moon rising will prelude festivities Thanksgiving Eve, Wed., Nov. 25, 2015, at 5:45 p.m.

Voted a Top 20 Event in 2015 by the Southeast Tourism Society, Airlie Gardens’ 67-acre nighttime forest awakens as Enchanted Airlie, with an estimated one million twinkling lights illuminating the half-mile, self-guided, walking trail of holiday displays and seasonal sounds.

Conceived and created by Airlie Gardens Foundation eleven years ago, Enchanted Airlie has rapidly gained national and international prominence as a must-see attraction. “We had visitors from all 50 states and 47 different countries,” said Janine Powell, Airlie Gardens’ Development Director. “In 2015, attendance was a record-breaking 40,000 people.”

As well as a maritime parade of festive boats and stunning fireworks, the flotilla itinerary is packed with Friday’s tree lighting ceremony, a visit from Santa, and the Atlantic Marine Flotilla Launch Party featuring The Embers. On Saturday, Festival in the Park will bustle with bouncy houses, slides, climbing walls, the Arab Choo Choo, live music, an antique auto show, and an estimated 100 booths featuring local merchants and arts and crafts vendors.

Located directly on the flotilla parade route, host hotel Blockade Runner Beach Resort kicks off the holiday celebration with a traditional and coastal Thanksgiving Day feast for early arrivals. Cape Fear Naturalist Captain Joe Abbate will navigate local waters with scenic nature tours and Sunset Cruises at the Blockade Runner dock.

Immediately following the flotilla, a 21-minute, 4,000-round fireworks display illuminates the night sky, showering the waterway with sound and color. “We have a long show by Zambelli Fireworks, one of the most reputable fireworks companies in the world,” said Pres Davenport, Flotilla Chairman. “We’re able to put on a really impressive display that rivals or surpasses most July 4th shows.”

Enchanted Airlie will open to the public Nov. 27-28, Dec. 4-6, 10-13, and 16-22. There are two reservation times each evening, 5-7 and 7-9 p.m. Enchanted Airlie tickets are available on the Airlie Gardens website, or Blockade Runner guests can call the hotel to make arrangements. Tickets sell out frequently and are not available at the gate.

With more than 50 million viewers across the country and more than 3.5 million spectators that line up along the streets of New York City each year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national icon that has grown into a world-famous holiday event. For almost 90 years, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has marked the official start of the holiday season. Growing in size and scale, the Parade proudly marches down a more than 2-mile route in New York City with more than 8,000 participants in tow including Macy’s employees, their families, celebrities, athletes, clowns and dance groups spreading holiday cheer. The Parade also features America’s best marching bands, fabulous floats and Macy’s signature giant helium character balloons.

On Nov. 26, a new float from Build-A-Bear, a global brand kids love and parents trust, will roll through Manhattan during the 89th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. The engineers and craftspeople at Macy’s Parade Studio began working with Build-A-Bear on the new concept in early 2015, and construction took approximately five months. The front view of the float begins with two bears playfully riding ocean waves, while a sailboat captained by a Sailor Bear rocks gently overhead. A castle featuring Build-A-Bear’s icon, Bearnard, serves as the centerpiece, complete with a friendly, smoke-breathing dragon climbing up to see a Princess Bear, who showers the crowds with confetti. The sides of the float feature different scenes of wonder and adventure including a classic teddy-bear tea party, as well as a trip to outer space on a rocket ship manned by an Astronaut Bear, who turns his head to gaze upon the world as he flies into the air with bouncing stars.
