New Leadership Structure is Expected to Help Further Turn the Financial Ship Around As Company Moves Beyond Closing and Selling Off Magazine Titles, Layoffs and Consolidation of Workforce Across All Titles

Long expected, Condé Nast yesterday appointed a new global leadership team designed to accelerate the company’s evolution into a 21st-century media company. The new organizational structure, which combines Condé Nast and Condé Nast International into a unified global team, was created with several guiding principles in mind, including the preservation of local editorial voice and authority, an enhanced focus on the consumer, unification of the company’s ad and commercial sales functions to reflect clients’ local and global needs and the development of new ways to share capabilities and best practices across the company.

Condé Nast is a global media company, home to iconic brands including Vogue, The New Yorker, GQ, Glamour, AD, Vanity Fair, and Wired, among many others. Launched in 2011, Condé Nast Entertainment is an award-winning production and distribution studio that creates programming across film, television, social and digital video and virtual reality.

One of my top priorities has been to define our organizational structure so that we can take full advantage of our unique growth opportunities and exceptional content around the world,” said the recently-appointed CEO of Condé Nast, RogerLynchI’m confident that our new global structure will better enable us to collaborate across teams and markets and, ultimately, deliver unparalleled experiences for our consumers and clients.

David Remnick, Editor-in-Chief of The New Yorker, will also continue to report directly to Lynch.

Global Operations Organization: Wolfgang Blau, President, International & Chief Operating Officer will oversee all non-U.S. markets, as well as selected global strategic functions, including Product & Technology, Data, Licensing, Global Editorial Operations, Business Development, and Delivery & Business Transformation. Consumer Marketing Organization: Condé Nast is creating a new consumer marketing organization that will be led by a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and will bring added focus to the company’s direct-to-consumer efforts. As the company expands its consumer offerings, this team will be charged with developing best-in-class capabilities and consistency across consumer experiences on every platform. The team will also be responsible for consumer revenue, with a core focus on subscriptions and memberships. In addition, the team will have responsibility for global brand management, consumer research, and insights and global audience development, ensuring a data-driven approach to the company’s efforts. His winning design, a hand-sequined silk georgette gown, with inspiration drawn from Norell’s classic design, is featured on page 105 of the Christmas Book.

Interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn has restored a hidden gem into a one-of-a-kind getaway with a design aesthetic that can be described as Southern Transitional. With Sea Island as the backdrop, the 1980s-built home maintains a traditional look that embodies true Southern charm with an emphasis on architecture reflective of its coastal location.

The charming seaside location of St. Simons fits the bill as a ‘dreamy’ location where our fans can see themselves relaxing by the backyard fire pit or hosting friends by the pool,” said Ron Feinbaum, general manager and senior vice president of Home Promotions for Scripps Networks Interactive. “Working with architect Michael Stauffer and builder Allen Construction, we were able to transform this home into a residence with design inspiration that our fans can use in their own homes.”

Motor Trend Announces Its 2017 Motor Trend Awards “OF The Year” Winners

Car Of The Year, Truck Of The Year, Suv Of The Year, And Person Of The Year Announced During Motor Trend Awards Live Ceremony And Webcast In Los Angeles2017_mt_awards_horizontal_tagline_800_dark-1

MOTOR TREND announced the Motor Trend Awards winners of the Golden Calipers for Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, SUV of the Year, and Person of the Year during a red carpet ceremony. An audience of industry executives and celebrity guests celebrated the winners at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The awards show was streamed live on the Motor Trend OnDemand SVOD service, YouTube, and the MOTOR TREND website. An OnDemand replay is available, which features award content, including complete details on the contenders, finalists, and winners, and a replay of the event broadcast.

What an exceptional night to honor the best of the best in the industry,” says Edward Loh, editor-in-chief of MOTOR TREND. “We are honored to present this year’s coveted Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, SUV of the Year, and Person of the Year to some of the most well-deserving and innovative recipients we have had yet.

This year’s finalists were evaluated against six key criteria: safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence, and performance of intended function. Judges for each program came from the MOTOR TREND staff but also included two special guest judges for Car of the Year (legendary car designer Tom Gale and product development guru Chris Theodore) and one special guest judge for SUV of the Year (sales and marketing veteran Mike Accavitti). The Person of the Year was chosen from MOTOR TREND’s annual Power List of the automotive industry’s 50 most influential people.

2017 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year Winner: 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EVcoty_vertical_800_dark

For only the second time in the awards’ seven decades, the sound of electrical energy being converted into motion and the sound of the automotive world shifting on its axis convinced the MOTOR TREND judges to select the Chevrolet Bolt EV as this year’s Car of the Year winner.

The Enthusiast Network Chevrolet-Bolt

2017 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year Winner: 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV (PRNewsFoto/TEN: The Enthusiast Network)

The Bolt EV was the first battery-powered vehicle to be conceived by General Motors to be a viable, affordable, mass-market, game-changing electric car, and just two numbers show why. The EPA has certified the Bolt EV will travel 238 miles on a full charge, and it costs only $29,995 after taking into consideration a $7,500 federal tax rebate.

Following a week of testing at the Hyundai-Kia Motors California Proving Ground, the MOTOR TREND judges found, “the most impressive thing about the Bolt EV is that there are no caveats and no ‘for an electric car’ qualifiers needed in any discussion. It is, simply, a world-class small car, and that’s before you factor in the benefits inherent in the smoothness, silence, and instant-on torque provided by the electric motor.

In awarding the Bolt EV its Car Of The Year status, Angus MacKenzie, International Bureau Chief for TEN: The Enthusiast Network, calls this year’s winner a “roomy, practical, quiet, and comfortable compact hatchback; an energy-efficient small car; and a benchmark electric vehicle—all in one.”

2017 MOTOR TREND Truck of the Year Winner: 2017 Ford Super Dutytoty_vertical_800_dark

Out of this year’s three impressive finalists tested at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Arizona proving ground, the MOTOR TREND judges named the 2017 Ford Super Duty MOTOR TREND’s 2017 Truck of the Year winner.

The Enthusiast NetworkFord-Super-Duty

The Ford Super Duty remains cool under extreme pressure, regardless of the circumstances. The design as a whole advances the direction of the previous generation without losing or abandoning its signature look or deviating from the consumer mission. The judges were extremely impressed with the performance of the F-350 dual-rear-wheel diesel as, despite weighing in at 8,643 pounds, it returned an outstanding 16.3/20.5/18.0 mpg city/highway/combined. The Super Duty’s ability to extend blind-spot detection to cover a trailer adds an important layer of safety, as does the ability to monitor six trailer tires’ pressures and the trailer lights on the dashboard.

With its latest Super Duty, Ford has set new benchmarks for capability and functionality. We have no doubt the competition will race to meet Ford’s new standard,” says MOTOR TREND Associate Editor Scott Evans.

The arrival of the Christmas Book is considered by many to mark the official start of the holiday shopping season. This year’s edition carries on the Neiman Marcus tradition of presenting a refined selection of items across a broad range of categories for everyone on your holiday shopping list. We are thrilled to present the 2016 fantasy gifts. Our team has scoured and vetted hundreds of one-of-a-kind items resulting in this highly curated collection of 12 items and experiences,” said Jim Gold, President and Chief Merchandising Officer of Neiman Marcus. “It is our goal to bring dreams to life!

First published in 1926 as a 16-page booklet, the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book was initially intended as a Christmas card to the store’s best customers. Through the years, the book has maintained its personal touch while evolving into a legendary source for alluring and mystical gifts.

Each year, the Christmas Book features specially commissioned artwork and the covers are as anticipated as the contents. “With the goal of bringing a fashion component to the cover of the Christmas Book, we combined custom artwork by Maija Louekari with the beautiful face of Lindsey Wixson to create a final image photographed by Walter Chin. And, to add that bit of fantasy that Neiman Marcus is famous for, the lenticular printing animates Lindsey winking,” said Georgia Christensen, Vice President, Brand Creative Director of Neiman Marcus. This year represents only the second time a unique element has been used to animate the cover. In 1999, a Christmas tree glistened with butterflies thanks to a lenticular onset.

As in previous years, Neiman Marcus will donate a portion of the proceeds from the majority of fantasy gifts to The Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation which brings enriching art experiences to youth in communities nationwide. Donations will be made to the GRAMMY Foundation with the purchase of the Exclusive GRAMMY Awards Experience and to Akola Project with the purchase of the Optimist Akola Bracelet.

First CES 2017 Keynote Announced: NVIDIA CEO to Address Latest in Artificial Intelligence, Self-Driving Cars, Virtual Reality, Gaming

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ announced its first keynote speaker for CES® 2017: NVIDIA co-founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, who will deliver the event’s preshow address at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association, CES will run Jan. 5-8, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV.Print

NVIDIA has spent the last two decades pioneering Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) computing. It invented the GPU in 1996 and has evolved it into a computer brain that gives humans the power to simulate virtual worlds and gives computers the intelligence to understand the real world. NVIDIA is now the world leader in AI computing — turning science fiction into reality.

Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993 and has served since then as president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors. Noted by Harvard Business Review as one of the world’s 100 best-performing CEOs, he is a recipient of the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award from the Global Semiconductor Association and has received other accolades, most notably the Daniel Epstein Engineering Management Award from the University of Southern California, and an honorary doctorate from Oregon State University. He is also a founding honoree of the U.S. Immigrant Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.

The Autonomous Vehicle Marketplace — formally known as Vehicle Intelligence — has grown by 75 percent since its inception at CES 2014. NVIDIA will exhibit alongside automotive manufacturers in the North Hall at CES 2017. Plus, more than a dozen CES conference sessions are dedicated to autonomous vehicles and vehicle technology.

NVIDIA plays a central role in some of the most important technology forces changing our world today,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association. “Its work in artificial intelligence, self-driving cars, VR and gaming puts the company on the leading edge of the industry. Mr. Huang is a visionary CEO who consistently anticipates trends well before their arrival. I am especially pleased to welcome him to the keynote stage given the growth we’ve seen in all of these areas on the CES show floor.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ is the trade association representing the $287 billion U.S. consumer technology industry. More than 2,200 companies – 80 percent are small businesses and startups; others are among the world’s best known brands – enjoy the benefits of CTA membership including policy advocacy, market research, technical education, industry promotion, standards development and the fostering of business and strategic relationships. The Association also owns and produces CES® – the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. Profits from CES are reinvested into CTA’s industry services.

CES is the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years – the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. As the largest hands-on event of its kind, CES features all aspects of the industry. And because it is owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the technology trade association representing the $287 billion U.S. consumer technology industry, it attracts the world’s business leaders and pioneering thinkers to a forum where the industry’s most relevant issues are addressed.

Registration Now Open For 2016 HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West March 31 – April 3, 2016

3 Days of Racing | 2 Tracks | One Epic Weekend

The 2016 HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West presented by Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive brings participating drivers to drag strips in Chandler, Ariz., and Tucson for three days of competition Thursday, March 31 through Sunday, April 3, 2016. With many highly competitive cars already registered – double the number compared to last year – this event is guaranteed to be bigger and better than ever.001-drag-weekend-west

Following a successful inaugural event last October, the second annual HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West will feature 100+ street-legal drag-race cars for three days of quarter-mile racing and 300 miles of street driving. The car with the lowest average elapsed time over the weekend of racing is the overall winner.

It’s not just about clocking the quickest elapsed time on the strips; these drivers will also have to follow a specified route from city to city. The crew at HOT ROD will require photographic evidence from each entry that drivers are adhering to the prescribed route. Thus, drivers will be on the clock for three straight days and must remain alert to all rules. To make this even more of an adventure, competitors will not have the luxury of having chase vehicles, support, nor their vehicles towed or trailered. However, entrants can tow their own trailers, within HOT ROD’s guidelines, but they must work alone.

The 2015 Hot Rod Drag Weekend™ brought together some of the top drag racers from across North America including Jeff Lutz, Joe Barry, Dave Schroeder and many more. Join the excitement as they continue their quest for 5-second quarter-mile runs.

Hot Rod Drag Week has become such an international phenomenon that we launched Drag Weekend last year so that more people could get involved,” said David Freighburger, The Enthusiast Network’s senior vice president of content strategy. “I’m thrilled to see the concept grow so quickly in just the second year. I’m going to come race, myself!

THREE DAYS OF COMPETITION:
The 2016 HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West will kick off Thursday, March 31 at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz., with registration and vehicle Tech, Test and Tune opportunities for all participants. It’s here that spectators will have the first chance to check out the competition. HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West then moves on to racing

  • Race Day One: Friday, April 1 at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz.

  • Race Day Two: Saturday, April 2 at the Tucson Dragway in Tucson, Ariz.

  • Race Day Three and Award Ceremony: Sunday, April 3 at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz.

PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION:
Experienced drag race drivers and enthusiasts alike are encouraged to register and join
HOT ROD Drag Weekend™ West. Pre-Registration (limited to 350 participants) is now available at https://www.raceit.com/Register/?event=35471 on a first-come, first-served basis at $250 per vehicle for all three days, including the driver, one passenger and one goody bag. Vehicles may only compete in one class. If there are fewer than 350 entries when on-site registration concludes on Thursday, March 31 at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Ariz., wait-list entries present on site will be accepted. Locals interested in racing alongside the competitors can do so at each track for a daily fee of $50, which includes an event t-shirt. (Drivers interested in participating can get more information at (http://www.hotrod.com/events/drag-weekend/ )

The upcoming exhibition, Bellissima! The Italian Automotive Renaissance, 1945–1975 (May 27–October 9, 2016), at Nashville’s The Frist Center for the Visual Arts celebrates the visual dynamism and spirit of innovation characterizing Italian coachbuilt cars, concept cars and motorcycles produced during the post–World War II economic revival. Returning to the Frist Center after the 2013 presentation of Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles, automotive authority and guest curator Ken Gross has chosen 19 automobiles and 3 motorcycles from private collections and museums that are among the finest examples of Italian automotive design, including vehicles by Alfa Romeo, Bizzarrini, Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lancia and Maserati. With the ultra-rare Alfa Romeo BAT models 5, 7 and 9 from the 1950s and a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, this all-star assembly offers surprises for even the most knowledgeable car aficionados. These powerful and extraordinary cars exemplify the sexy and streamlined Italian design language that propelled Italy to the forefront of automotive design internationally. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated scholarly catalogue published by Rizzoli.New logo white

After World War II, Italian automobile designers began to create sleek, low-slung berlinettas (coupes) that would win postwar races and inspire a legion of stunning road-going cars. New companies like Cisitalia and Ferrari used the resumption of auto racing as a platform to begin producing stylish cars that soon caught the attention of wealthy glitterati, movie stars, and influential industrialists. These clients relished the idea of exclusive, often bespoke automobiles, with powerful engines and advanced styling. Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, and smaller Italian carmakers soon followed suit; with Ferruccio Lamborghini creating a grand touring Berlinetta that would rival Ferrari’s.

With their startling, often sensual designs, Italian cars from the mid-century had an immense influence on the automotive industry around the world. The successful racing efforts of Ferrari, Maserati, Lancia, and Alfa Romeo ensured that Italian automakers dominated international competition. Lessons from racing were applied to the design of road cars and Italy’s auto industry helped lead an international styling renaissance. In 1954, Road & Track declared, “The Italian influence leads the automotive design world. It remains consistent, commanding, spirited and graceful.”

Coach builders worked with carmakers in Italy as well as those in countries like England and Spain. In the United States, Italians designed and built bodies for production cars like Nash, Hudson and even Cadillac. Chrysler hired Italian designers to build a series of dramatically modern concept cars, including Firebirds and Firearrows. Their so-called “Forward Look” styling intrigued American buyers and influenced many later production models.

Toyota and Lexus Celebrate 15 Years of Hybrids and Hollywood

On Saturday, October 24, Toyota and Lexus celebrated 15 years of partnership with EMA, and the 15th anniversary of the Prius, at the 25rd annual Environmental Media Awards at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif. The all-new 2016 Prius also made its Hollywood debut at the green carpet event.

The award ceremony honors film and television productions that communicate environmental messages in creative and influential ways. This year’s honorees include Don Henley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Davis, Van Jones, Zem and James Joaquin, and a special tribute to 25 years The Simpsons‘ series excellence in environmental messaging.

The entertainment industry elevated Prius to a cultural icon and made hybrids cool,” said Bob Carter, senior vice president, automotive operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “Toyota and Lexus are proud to support and celebrate Hollywood’s positive influence and impact on the planet.”

The completely redesigned 2016 Prius boasts striking design, smarter technology, and impressive MPG in a vehicle that is more fun to drive than ever. Lexus will be showcasing two vehicles for the evening. The NX 300h AWD, a luxury hybrid with class-leading MPG efficiency and innovative design and the CT F SPORT Special Edition, with sport-tuned suspension, exclusive F SPORT styling and impressive fuel efficiency.

The hydrogen powered Mirai fuel cell vehicle, which hit the streets of California this week, is also attending the party. The Mirai combines two elements – hydrogen and oxygen – to produce electricity that can power the car for an estimated 312 miles on a single fill-up. The best part is what leaves the tailpipe: only water vapor.

The Environmental Media Association (EMA), organizer and host of the awards, is a non-profit founded by Cindy and Alan Horn and Lyn and Norman Lear in 1989. EMA’s mission is to mobilize the entertainment industry in educating people about environmental issues. Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. is a member of the EMA Corporate Board.

New York International Auto Show 2015: World Premiere of the Boxster Spyder

Porsche is highlighting the 2015 convertible season by celebrating the world premiere of the new (2016) Boxster Spyder. This pure sports car will make its debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show (April 3-12, 2015 / Jacob Javits Convention Center 11th ave, between 34 & 40 Streets), The new top model of the Boxster range retains the unique and unmistakable character of the previous Spyder, which has already attained cult status. For example, the classic roadster top is still opened and closed by hand, and the Boxster Spyder is only available with a manual transmission, benefiting both weight savings and driver enjoyment.

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder

Staying true to roadster DNA, the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder offers a traditional sports-car driving experience combined with truly exceptional performance. This includes a firm sport suspension with a 20-mm lower ride height, brakes taken from the 911 Carrera S, more direct steering, and a 3.8-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with an output of 375 hp, culminating in a genuine sports car experience with outstanding driving dynamics. It is the lightest model of the current Boxster line, and the most powerful Boxster to date. Taking only 4.3 seconds to sprint from 0 to 60 mph, the Boxster Spyder has a top track speed of 180 mph.

The distinctive design of the Boxster Spyder includes stylistic elements reminiscent of legendary sports and race cars from Porsche. Two prominent streamliners that extend down along the sweeping rear lid behind the headrests pay tribute to the 718 Spyder from the 1960s. The manually operated, lightweight top is suitable for everyday use with an electric clasp, while bringing to mind roadsters from the past. The fins that stretch back from the top to the rear lend the vehicle’s silhouette its characteristic design. The front and rear fascia’s also are unique to the Boxster Spyder, and an air outlet is located in front of the forward luggage compartment.

P15_0189_a4_rgb

More so than in any other Boxster, the interior of the new Spyder creates an atmosphere that elicits a feeling of pure driving pleasure. The driver and passenger sit in standard Sport Seats Plus, while the new steering wheel with a diameter of 360 mm (compared to 370 mm in other Boxster models) helps ensure the mid-engine roadster can be driven precisely and with great agility.

In line with the model’s traditional roadster character, neither a radio nor an air conditioner is included as standard equipment in order to reduce weight. However, both can be ordered as optional equipment at no cost. Furthermore, the entire range of Boxster audio systems is available for customers to choose from as an option, including the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with navigation.

The new Boxster Spyder will be launched in the U.S. market in October and can now be ordered at dealerships. In the United States, the MSRP is $82,100, not including a $995 destination charge.

Double World Premiere For Porsche at The Geneva International Motor Show 2015

Porsche to Highlight Two New High-Performance Cars for the First Time

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is celebrating the world premiere of two extreme sports cars at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show. The new Cayman GT4 is the first high-performance sports car belonging to the GT family that is based on the mid-engine coupes. Clocking a lap time of seven minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nürburgring, the new entry-level model makes a great debut.

The second new model is another exceptional Porsche that sets new standards on the racetrack. The world premiere will take place during the Porsche press conference at the Palexpo Arena in Geneva at 11:30 (CET) on March 3, 2015. A live webcast will be available in German and English on: http://porsche.gomexlive.com/. This vehicle confirms the sports car manufacturer’s commitment to high performance sports cars that manage to make a very special link between everyday driving and motorsports.

These two premieres continue Porsche’s tradition of presenting motorsport highlights at the spring car show on the shores of Lake Geneva. The 911 GT3, 918 Spyder and 919 Hybrid has all celebrated their debuts in Geneva in recent years. With the new Cayman GT4, Porsche impressively maximised the driving dynamics of the mid-engine sports car and positions it as the new benchmark in its segment. This high-performance sports car clearly stands out from the other Cayman models: the 3.8-litre engine, which is derived from the 911 Carrera S, produces 385 hp (283 kW). The completely new front end with lowered front spoiler and additional air outlet in front of the bonnet as well as the rear wing make it the only Cayman with downforce at both axles. The chassis, which features a 30 mm lower body position and an extra-large brake system, is set up for motorsports with components from the 911 GT3.

Porsche’s sales figures also continue to develop sportily. With about 16,000 vehicle deliveries to customers in January 2015, the sports car manufacturer continues its success of the past year. This corresponds to an increase of 31 per cent in comparison to the same month of the previous year. The 911 is in especially high demand internationally. More than 2,400 happy customers took deliveries of the sports car icon in January. In 2014, Porsche delivered nearly 189,850 new vehicles to customers all over the world – an increase of 17 per cent over the previous year.

Porsche’s sales figures were also very good in Switzerland, with about 39,000 Porsches owned by a population of approximately eight million. The steady growth is especially pleasing for Porsche. In 2014, Porsche delivered 2,871 new vehicles to Swiss customers, an increase of about 29 per cent over the previous year.

Established in 1984, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) is the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche 918 Spyder, 911, Boxster and Cayman sports cars, the Macan and Cayenne SUVs and Panamera sports sedans. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia since 1998, PCNA moved into a brand new, cutting edge building at One Porsche Drive in January 2015. This one-of-a-kind facility showcases a commitment to design and functionality, serving not only as an inspirational workplace for Porsche employees, but also a brand experience center featuring a 1.6 mile test track, human performance center, and event space. PCNA employs approximately 300 people who provide parts, service, marketing and training for 189 dealers. They, in turn, work to provide Porsche customers with a best-in-class experience that is in keeping with the brand’s 65-plus year history and leadership in the advancement of vehicle performance, safety and efficiency. PCNA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Porsche AG, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

Also making its North American debut today was the new 2015 Nissan Versa Sedan, the best-selling vehicle for four years in a row*** in the highly competitive sub-compact segment.

Most prominent of the changes is the bold new front-end treatment anchored by larger headlights, a more substantial looking fascia and standard chrome plating on the grille – all of which strengthen the family ties of the Versa Sedan with the Nissan stable mates – Sentra, Altima and Maxima. The new Versa Sedan goes on sale today at Nissan dealers nationwide.

Both new 2015 models were revealed at a press conference led by Nissan Chief Planning Officer and Executive Vice President Andy Palmer and Nissan North America, Inc. Chairman, Management Committee and Executive Vice President José Muñoz.

“In the past three years, Nissan has completely transformed its product portfolio, grown global volume by more than one million units, strengthened the brand to being the fastest-growing automaker on the Interbrand Top 100, resulting in the shake-up of entire auto industry segments,” said Palmer. “Murano helped create a new segment, and the latest version, debuting today, redefines that segment.”

Added Muñoz: “We have ambitious growth targets for the Nissan brand, and these goals are supported by increasing consumer demand for our newest products. In the last 12 months, Nissan brand sales were up nearly 15 percent in the U.S. due to positive customer response to new vehicles like Versa Note, Pathfinder and Rogue. Now with the new Murano coming this fall, we expect this momentum to continue as we’re poised to set even better numbers for 2014, including increased market share.”

In addition, Nissan demonstrated its new, highly innovative Smart Rearview Mirror that utilizes advanced camera technology to enhance the driver’s view behind a vehicle. For its first U.S. showing in New York, it is installed in the all-new 2014 Rogue at the Nissan display. Housed within a structure of a traditional rearview mirror, the Smart Rearview Mirror allows the driver to switch between a traditional rearview mirror and an LCD monitor, depending on the driver’s preference.  The camera projects a clear image – a wider and clearer view than a standard mirror – onto the monitor for a better view, as well as a more comfortable driving experience.

Smart Rearview Mirror will give our customers the best possible view no matter how tall the passengers in the back seat or how bad the road conditions,” said Palmer. “This mirror technology reinforces Nissan’s commitment to improving the everyday driving experience with advanced systems and technology, such as Electric Vehicles, connected and autonomous driving cars.”

The mid-year release of the retro-cool Low Rider® and rangy SuperLow®) 1200T completes the largest new-model launch in Harley-Davidson’s 110-year history and keeps the throttle pinned on the company’s accelerated, customer-led product-development process.

It’s been a fantastic six months for us,” said Matt Levatich, Harley-Davidson Motor Company President and Chief Operating Officer. “First Project RUSHMORE, then Harley-Davidson Street, now the new SuperLow 1200T and Low Rider models — all are the result of being customer led and delivering riders the technical prowess and rebellious spirit that they want infused in each and every new Harley.”

In 1977 Harley-Davidson created a ride-it-hard, put-it-away dirty, make-your-own-boundaries custom motorcycle that became an icon – the Low Rider. That defiant attitude returns with a vengeance as the legendary Low Rider model name is reprised for an all-new cruiser that rolls with old-school class and exciting new performance. A polished headlamp visor, wrinkle black trim, and split five-spoke aluminum wheels are touchstone styling elements from the original Low Rider model.

The unrelenting thrust of the Twin Cam 103(TM) powertrain signals departure with a satisfying, throaty tone through twisting header pipes feeding a 2-into-1 exhaust. Suspension is calibrated for all-day comfort and precise handling, while dual-front disc brakes deliver capable stopping power. The new adjustable seat and handlebar risers enable a perfect fit for more riders. Ample Genuine Motor Accessories offer endless possibilities for self-expression, so any rider can own the look and own the road.

Harley-Davidson opens the door to touring adventure with the SuperLow 1200T, a motorcycle that combines a nimble chassis with essential touring features and the power to ride to the horizon. A detachable windshield, locking saddlebags and Michelin(®) Scorcher(TM) 11T touring tires are standard equipment. Docking points accommodate detachable accessory racks and backrests for ease of customization.

A new seat and control ergonomics are shaped specifically to give more riders long-distance comfort. The SuperLow 1200T can run with the pack thanks to the power of a 1200cc Evolution(®) V-Twin engine, and it weighs 118 pounds less than the lightest Harley-Davidson Big Twin touring motorcycle. The finish is premium Harley-Davidson with aluminum wheels, an available two-tone paint scheme and plenty of brilliant chrome.

To swing a leg over a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle visit h-d.com to find a local dealer. The Low Rider and SuperLow 1200T models start arriving today in dealerships across the country, and are available to demo during Daytona Bike Week at the Harley-Davidson display at the Speedway.

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2014: THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE QUANT E-SPORTLIMOUSINE WITH NANOFLOWCELL® POWERTRAIN CONCEPT

A vision becomes reality.” With these words, Nunzio La Vecchia presented the new QUANT e-Sportlimousine during the press day of the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The world premiere of the first automobile with a nanoFLOWCELL® powertrain aroused great international media interest. This highly anticipated, revolutionary powertrain technology and energy-storage system can give new impetus to the field of electric mobility.

QUANT_WALCH_T8B0492_2 QUANT_WALCH_T8B0552_2

“The QUANT e-Sportlimousine is a research vehicle for road testing innovative energy storage systems, focusing especially on development and improvements in flow cell battery technology,” according to Nunzio La Vecchia, Technical Director of nanoFLOWCELL AG.

QUANT_WALCH_N2A7799_2

The QUANT e-Sportlimousine is neither a show car, nor a concept car. It is the first automobile to be fitted with the nanoFLOWCELL® that is also designed from the ground up to meet all homologation requirements,” La Vecchia explains the direction of the intensive research and development work undertaken to produce the first prototype during the last few years.

How the nanoFLOWCELL® works
Flow cells combine aspects of electrochemical accumulator cells with those of fuel cells. Liquid electrolytes are kept in two tanks and circulated through the cell. At the heart of the system, a membrane separates the two electrolytic solutions, but allows electrical charge to pass through and thereby produce power for the drive train.

Advantages of the nanoFLOWCELL®
“The advantages of the nanoFLOWCELL® lie in its high charge density, high performance density, and its light weight compared to conventional energy storage systems. Furthermore, it contains no harmful substances, no moving parts, and it is very efficient,” explains Nunzio La Vecchia.

The nanoFLOWCELL® was conceived and is under active development at the nanoFLOWCELL DigiLab simulation lab at nanoFLOWCELL AG in Zurich, Switzerland. The results are very promising: At a nominal voltage of 600 V and 50 A nominal current the system is achieving an impressive continuous output of 30 kW. The nanoFLOWCELL® has a 5-times greater performance-by-weight than current lithium-ion technologies that power most of today’s electrical vehicles, meaning its driving range is 5-times greater than a conventional unit of the same weight.

The new QUANT e-Sportlimousine
Elegant, sporty and with an extraordinary design that underscores the special character of this car as the platform for a revolutionary new powertrain technology – this is the QUANT e-Sportlimousine in its world premiere at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. With its length of more than 5.25 metres and a width of more than 2.2 metres and a height of 1.35 metres, the QUANT e-Sportlimousine makes a bold statement in terms of its dimensions and proportions.

“It was important to us that our four-seater QUANT e-Sportlimousine would be a very sporty car despite its size and unusual dimensions,” Nunzio La Vecchia is thrilled by the very positive public reactions at the car’s premiere in Geneva. Two unusually long gull-wing doors, large 1.7 metre wide side windows, extremely curved front and rear windscreen, no b-pillar, 22 inch tyres, and a short front bonnet are all part of the impressive optics of the new QUANT e-Sportlimousine.

The interior stands out with some unusual highlights: The two rows of seats, one behind the other in jet-cockpit style, accentuate the carbon fibre monocoque construction. The prototype presented in Geneva also won a lot of fans for its paint colour, “chrystal lake blue” developed exclusively for this vehicle, which reflects the character of the powertrain. The blue represents water; copper highlights, the flowing of electricity.

Another distinctive feature of the new QUANT e-Sportlimousine are its wooden operating controls. The new sensorFLOW® technology provides a visual highlight never seen before in automobile control elements. At first glance, you only seen the natural, smooth ash wood surfaces. Once the QUANT e-Sportlimousine is activated, the control elements become visible through the natural wood. “The wood surfaces are so thin that a light touch of the finger on the sensorFLOW® icons triggers the appropriate action,” enthuses development lead Nunzio La Vecchia, “This innovation allows us use a sustainable material like wood to give you a direct connection to the digital control systems.”

The interior also features modern display technology more than 1.25 metres wide and 16 centimetres tall, the front display gives this car that widescreen cinema feeling. The QUANT e-Sportlimousine’s complete infotainment system is implemented in an Android-based system. The new QUANTmobile App allows the driver to access the QUANT e-Sportlimousine’s climate and infotainment controls from outside the vehicle. Driving statistics and navigation functions are also accessible from a smartphone.

Upcoming events
The next public presentation of the QUANT e-Sportlimousine will be April 17 to 20 at the nanoFLOWCELL AG stand at Top Marques Monaco 2014.

Two Wheels and Still a Genuine Porsche: Porsche Launches new Bicycle Collection for Spring 2014

Porsche is synonymous with sportiness, performance and driving pleasure – attributes that apply on two wheels as well as four: Porsche is expanding its Driver’s Selection range to include new bikes, available from March 2014. The Porsche Bike RX, Porsche Bike RS and Porsche Bike impress through their use of innovative materials, and deliver a sporty ride both on the road and off it. The design is typically Porsche: The frames of the new bikes are reminiscent of the silhouette cut by the sportscars produced in Zuffenhausen.

Featuring a 20-speed gear assembly supplied by Shimano and 27.5 inch wheels, the new Bike RX is the ideal partner for off-road routes. The mountain bike’s high-end carbon frame blends stability with a low weight and outstanding damping properties, guaranteeing boundless riding pleasure in the great outdoors. A DT Swiss air-suspension fork and hydraulic disc brakes supplied by German brake specialist Magura ensure optimum control for every manoeuvre and on all terrain.

The Bike RS also features a high-end frame, with ergonomic components made from carbon, bringing the sport bike’s overall weight to just nine kilograms. A 20-speed gear assembly makes the bike ideal for particularly sporty rides through vibrant urban settings or on extended trips. What’s more, the XTR equipment provided by Shimano and the ultra-lightweight brakes supplied by Magura ensure complete exclusivity on the road, even without an eight-cylinder engine.

The Porsche Bike, in turn, features a Shimano Alfine 8-speed hub gear assembly, which permits the eight gears to be shifted with ease. A low-wear geared belt drive transfers the power to the wheels without making a sound, while the MT26 disc brakes provided by Magura ensure optimum safety – making the Porsche Bike the ideal companion when navigating through the urban jungle.

Another outstanding feature of the Porsche Bikes is the anti-theft label, applied as standard under the paint on the frame. The label contains a unique code and is intended to deter thieves. Should a theft nevertheless occur, this code can then be used online to report the bike as stolen. Registered bikes can ultimately be checked by anyone – online and while on the move – simply by using an iPhone app and QR code, making it considerably more difficult to sell on stolen bikes.

The Porsche Bikes will launch on the global markets in three sizes (S, M and L) from March 2014. Details of these and other products in the Porsche Driver’s Selection range can be found in Porsche Centres around the world and online at http://www.porsche.com/shop. Not all products are universally available.

The new Porsche 911 Targa

The new Porsche 911 Targa

At the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit later this month, Porsche is presenting the latest generation of the extravagant 911 model to the public. This model is the first to combine the classic Targa concept with state-of-the-art roof technology. Just like the legendary original Targa model, the new model features the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar. But unlike the classic models, the roof segment on the new Targa can be opened and closed at the push of a button. When the button is actuated, the fully automatic roof system stows the convertible top behind the rear seat system, providing a real spectacle. The rear-weighted design of the PTM all-wheel drive fitted as standard is a typical Porsche feature, and guarantees that this latest 911 model also offers optimum driving dynamics on all road surfaces and in all weather conditions.

With these features, the new 911 Targa is presenting itself as a high-quality, innovative remake of the classic vehicle from 1965. The model shares a great deal in common with the 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet models; up to the window line, the technology and body of the vehicles is more or less the same. The combination of the wide rear end that is typical of all-wheel drive models, the Targa bar and the dome-shaped rear window gives the latest 911 an extremely sporty appearance and a low-slung profile.
