Celebrating the 40th anniversary of ELO‘s top-selling double album, Out of the Blue, Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release the first-time-ever picture disc edition of the ELO classic available everywhere on Friday, September 29.

This 2LP collector’s picture disc edition of Out of the Blue was remastered from the original master tapes and includes a digital download of the album.

ELO was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 7, 2017.

One of the indisputable masterpieces–and most commercially successful titles–in the ELO canon, Out of the Blue, the group’s seventh studio album, was originally released in October 1977. The musical and conceptual brainchild of Jeff Lynne, who wrote and produced the entire album, Out of the Blue is among the most ambitious double albums in classic rock history, a complex and visionary work that included, as the album’s complete Side 3, Lynne’s “Concerto for a Rainy Day,” a coherent song suite comprised of four movements and authentic ambient weather effects recorded by Lynne and incorporated into the soundscape of the record.

40th anniversary of ELO’s top-selling double album, Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue was the first ELO album to feature the group’s logo as a three-dimensional flying saucer/space station, a visual motif central to ELO’s live shows. The album, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 has gone on to sell upwards of 10 million copies worldwide and is the first double album in UK chart history to spawn four Top 20 singles.

Forty years on, I would never have imagined that this music would take on a life of its own,” says Lynne.

Formed in Birmingham, England in 1970, ELO was designed to create progressive modern pop music combining classical and rock elements. Lynne has consistently been ELO’s guiding light and driving force, writing virtually all of the group’s original material while producing the albums.

From 1972 through 1986, the golden era of recording and touring, the group racked up more combined UK and US Top 40 hits than any other band on the planet while selling more than 50 million records worldwide. During the same period, ELO scored twenty Top 20s on the UK Singles Chart and fifteen Top 20s on the US Billboard Hot 100.

More recently, recording and touring as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, saw the 2015 release of the critically acclaimed album Alone In The Universe on Columbia Records, the first album of all-new music released by the band in over a decade. The band also just played a sold-out Wembley Stadium show in London on June 24th.

Eric Woolfson (who passed December 2, 2009) and Alan Parsons

A multi-layered masterpiece, Eye in the Sky is the Alan Parsons Project‘s sixth studio album written by Eric Woolfson (who passed December 2, 2009) and Alan Parsons. A conceptual musical meditation on a variety of belief systems–the album’s title refers to casino surveillance, Earth-circling satellites and the all-seeing eye of the Egyptian God HorusEye in the Sky has proved both timely and timeless, a remarkably prescient view of art, religion, politics and culture for the 21st century.

The Alan Parsons Project’s Eye in the Sky: Deluxe Box Set Includes 3 CDs, 2 LPs, 5.1 Surround Mix and Stereo HD Mix of Original Album on Blu-ray, Previously Unreleased Bonus Material, Flexi-Disc, 60-page Book, 1982 Replica Poster and More

The 35th anniversary Eye in the Sky collector’s box set includes 3 CDs (CD1: Original Album Expanded + bonus tracks, CD2: Eric Woolfson’s Songwriting Diaries, CD3: Previously Unreleased Bonus Material and Disc 4: 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo HD version of the original album on Blu-ray). Also included are 2 vinyl LPs (the original album newly struck at half speed on four sides at 45rpm at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell), a flexi-disc replica of an original 1982 promo, a 60-page hardback book featuring newly-written essays, previously unreleased images recently discovered in Eric Woolfson’s personal archive and new interviews with many of the musicians who recorded the tracks on the album, an Eye in the Sky 1982 replica poster and postcard, a gold-foil Eye of Horus stamp on the front of the box and more.

Eye in the Sky is available for pre-order now: https://smarturl.it/eyeinthesky

All of the newly discovered bonus material on Eye in the Sky has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to produce the best possible state-of-the-art listening experience for longtime fans and newcomers to the album.

The songwriting diary disc is a very special element of this package,” says Sally Woolfson. “This shows Eric’s private moments of creativity captured on tape as songwriting memos to himself. As he didn’t read or write annotated music, this was how he developed the songs he wrote. They give a wonderful fly on the wall insight into the creative process where you can literally hear the song evolve as the ideas come out of his head. These are very precious to the family and it was extremely difficult to pick out the tracks to include in this box set from the hours and hours of material we had for this album alone. We’ve tried to illustrate the creative progression where a number of tracks for the same song have been included. We hope the fans will enjoy this rare insight into the birth of the songs from the ‘Eye in the Sky’ album.” Continue reading

“The Very Best Of Diana Krall” Released On Vinyl In U.S. For First Time To Mark Album’s 10th Anniversary

Verve Records/UMe are celebrating the legacy of the incomparable multi-platinum GRAMMY® Award-winning singer and pianist Diana Krall by releasing The Very Best of Diana Krall on vinyl for the first time in the U.S., as the greatest hits collection nears its 10th anniversary. The album was made available July 28 as a two-LP set on audiophile-favorite 180-gram vinyl and follows last year’s release of eight essential Diana Krall albums on vinyl as part of Verve’s 60th anniversary celebration. Covering the years 1996-2006, this 15-track collection compiled by Krall in collaboration with her longtime producer, the late Tommy LiPuma, features highlights from her first decade as a recording artist, during which time the Grammy winning singer/pianist’s expressive vocals and delicate, soulful piano work gained her international stardom. The album is available for purchase here: https://UMe.lnk.to/TVBODianaKrall2LPPR

Easily the most high-profile female jazz artist of her generation,” says The New York Times, Krall has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, making the Berklee College of Music graduate one of the best-selling jazz artists of all time. The Very Best on vinyl arrives as Krall celebrates the May release of her acclaimed new album, Turn Up the Quiet, and current tour that will last 2+ years, and take her around the world.

Verve-UMe The Very Best of Diana Krall

Verve-UMe The Very Best of Diana Krall

The selections on The Very Best range from intimate trio work to pieces recorded live with a full symphony orchestra. Krall delivers some deeply personal moments and reimagines timeless vintage standards by some of her favorite composers as George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Van Heusen and Cahn, and Bacharach and David.

Overflowing with career highlights, the album includes several tracks from Krall’s towering 1999 international breakthrough, When I Look in Your Eyes: her mesmerizing interpretations of Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Let’s Fall in Love,” and “Pick Yourself Up.” That album, her Verve Records debut, was nominated for Album of the Year at the 42nd annual GRAMMY® Awards, the first time in 25 years a jazz singer was nominated in that major category. It won for Best Jazz Vocal and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).

Throughout the album, Krall’s artistry is highlighted on the Gershwin standard “‘S Wonderful” and the Bacharach and David-penned title track from her 2001 GRAMMY® Award-winning album, The Look of Love. This album put her atop her native Canada’s all-genre albums chart for the first time and gave her the Artist and Album of the Year trophies at the Juno Awards in her home country.

The collection is also notable for Krall’s imaginative take on Tom Waits‘ “The Heart of Saturday Night” and the dark and seductive “You Go to My Head” taken from The Look of Love sessions, both previously unreleased. It also features beautiful live renditions of “East of the Sun (West of the Moon)” and “Fly Me To The Moon,” recorded with a symphony orchestra at Krall’s sold-out concerts at Paris’ Olympia Theatre for her remarkable live album, Live In Paris.

Included on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums of the Decade list, The Very Best of Diana Krall is both the perfect sampler for the new listener and a reminder for her most passionate fans all the reasons Miss Krall is regarded as one of the greatest Jazz artists of her time.

“When Estée Lauder launched the Modern Muse perfume in 2013, we embraced the idea of women as muses, living life on their own terms, doing great things and inspiring everyone around them,” said Stephane de La Faverie, Global Brand President, Estée Lauder. “Misty has challenged the status quo to realize her dreams and has inspired many young women in her path. Misty will bring the concept of perfume to life through her unique narrative.”

The Modern Muse perfume is a lush floral woody fragrance that combines confidence, style, and creativity with a modern and youthful attitude, featuring a seductive contrast of sparkling floral and modern glittering woods. Launched in 2013, the Modern Muse perfume was inspired by the current complexity of modern women.

The shimmering jasmine note captures her creative energy and magnetic femininity. The exotic tangerine and tempting honeysuckle nectar send a spark of energy through a jovial feel of ornamental petals. Two extractions of sambac jasmine, including China Absolute, brings a luminous texture to the feminine bouquet of the rich Tuberose Fleur and fresh lily.

The glistening woody note captures his glistening style, strength, and sensuality, expressed through this innovative blend of two Patchouli essences wrapped in the creaminess of Madagascar’s vanilla, amber wood and soft musk – all compounding an undeniable sensual finish.

Misty is the perfect representation of today’s modern muse,” said Estée Lauder Style and Image director Aerin Lauder. “It also represents female strength, power, dedication, and passion, and you see it in what she does every day, whether she’s performing or inspiring the next generation of dancers. I think she’s a wonderful model of life. And I’m delighted to be able to bring her to the Estée Lauder brand.
