Tony Bennett Handpicks The Classics: Quintessential Career-Spanning Collection Set For US Release on January 28, 2014 on RPM/Columbia/Legacy Recordings

The Classics Available in Standard & Expanded Deluxe Editions
RPM/Columbia/Legacy Recordings will release The Classics, a newly compiled collection of twenty Tony Bennett recordings, each personally selected by the artist, providing definitive takes on “a song that sounds like it was written yesterday even though it may have been written 500 years ago or 50 years ago.”  Tony Bennett’s The Classics is available for pre-order now and will be in stores on January 28.

When approached to curate an anthology of classic recordings drawn from across his career, Bennett kept “two things in mind: choosing songs that exemplify to the highest degree a timeless quality, while selecting a performance of those songs that present them in a very immediate and ‘live’ approach. I feel that songs I selected for The Classics absolutely meet both of these criteria.”

The Classics opens in 1951 with “Because of You,” Tony’s first Columbia Records single and first #1 record, includes the “solo tracks that I felt most closely represented the highest level of musical craftsmanship that has been my mandate as I have built my recording catalog” and spotlights some of the finest of Bennett’s acclaimed duets, sung “with artists who I admire and have loved working with over the years.”  The Classics finds Tony Bennett sharing songs with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, k.d. lang, Barbra Streisand, Juanes, Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Michael Buble, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse.

The Classics is the latest Tony Bennett Legacy entry which has already enjoyed two highly acclaimed releases early this year:  the never before released, Bennett/Brubeck: The White House Sessions, Live 1962 and the much-anticipated Tony Bennett Live At the Sahara, Las Vegas 1964.  Additionally, Tony Bennett’s entire catalog was made available for the first time on i-Tunes this past fall. Little Shot Of Horrors? Microscope Image of Carnivorous Plant Wins 10th Anniversary Olympus BioScapes Competition

A spellbinding photo of the yawning trap of a carnivorous plant has taken First Prize in the 2013 OLYMPUS BIOSCAPES DIGITAL IMAGING COMPETITION®, the world’s foremost forum for showcasing microscope images and movies of life science subjects. IGOR SIWANOWICZ, a researcher from the HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE, JANELIA FARM RESEARCH CAMPUS, Ashburn, Va., captured the eerily fascinating photo of the floating humped bladderwort plant. The confocal image was selected from more than 2100 entries to earn Dr. Siwanowicz $5,000 worth of Olympus equipment.

Open trap of aquatic carnivorous plant, humped bladderwort (Utricularia gibba). The floating plant digests microinvertebrates that are sucked into its trap a millisecond after they touch its trigger hairs (hair bases are seen in the center of the domeshaped entrance). The traps also provide a microhabitat for singlecell green algae, predominantly desmids, visible here. The red in the image comes from chlorophyll's innate fluorescence. Confocal imaging, 100x. NICK GRAHAM IS TRULY ONE OF MY TOP FIVE FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRYAs founder and Chief Underpants Officer of the ubiquitous JOE BOXER brand, Nick, in more ways than one, changed the face of men’s furnishings and fashion when he turned his underwear company into one of America’s most popular lifestyle brands.

Over the last decade and after haven sold JOE BOXER, Nick has worked with a diverse list of global retailers and apparel brands and has developed and launched numerous apparel brands with a distribution of over 10,000 stores in the United States.

When I last saw Nick at NYFW in September, he mentioned that he was launching a new line under his own name. On December 10, he launched the Nick Graham Men’s Line at a Pop-Up store in New York City, introducing the line to the press and customers alike. The new collection–entitled “NEW YORK”, focuses on the monochromatic use of black and white, Nick’s two favorite colors and a staple in the collection–will initially focus on the Men’s Apparel and Accessories market, and then branch out into other categories over time. The “NEW YORK” collection consists of shirt ($99.00, http://nickgraham.com/collections/shirts), underwear ($18.00, http://nickgraham.com/collections/underwear), Neckwear (Bowties, $59; Ties, $49; scarves, $150; pocket squares, $39; http://nickgraham.com/collections/neckwear), T-Shirts ($29,  http://nickgraham.com/collections/knits), 3D jewelry ($75, http://nickgraham.com/collections/3d-jewelry), and Carryall ($39, http://nickgraham.com/collections/sport).

Over the coming year, Nick and Company will offer an evolving range of collections and expansive offerings of new and innovative Menswear products. To give you a sense of how this will play out, here is a glimpse into our future offerings:

Following “NEW YORK” is the “GILLIGAN’S ISLAND” COLLECTION: nautically-inspired prints and themes perfect for getting lost on a desert island. Get the yacht polished and grab your Mary Ann (or Gilligan). This will be followed in summer by the “DINNER PARTY AT BURNING MAN COLLECTION”, an explosion of color and prints worthy of an all-nighter on the Playa.

In celebration of Bermuda, he will offer what they call “BERMUDADA”, a pink and white collection to turn surrealists’ heads. Get your shorts ready, pirates! He will also be doing capsule collections around holidays and themes such as Valentine in the “I FELL IN LOVE AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS STUPID TEE SHIRT.” Collection

In other words, check in often at www.nickgraham.com because there will always be new stuff going on.

The eminently quotable Nick Graham has the final word (as he should): “We’re happy to have you aboard our spaceship (or canoe), and if you do have some wacky, wonderful and inspired idea you’d like to see realized, let us know.”

Purity® Vodka Takes Top Honor At The 2013 Spirit Masters Competition And Wins Unprecedented 3rd Consecutive Title Of Grand Vodka Master

PURITY VODKA, one of the most awarded ultra-premium vodka in the world, has won the PRESTIGIOUS 2013 GRAND VODKA MASTER AWARD from THE SPIRITS BUSINESS. Purity Vodka is the only brand to receive this extraordinary honor an unparalleled three years in a row.

THE SPIRITS BUSINESS hosts several competitions throughout the year where medals are awarded based on blind tastings by a panel of leading spirit experts and trade journalists in multiple categories. Those brands who are awarded Gold and Masters’ Awards are then evaluated on a variety of levels and criteria for the year’s ultimate prize, the title of Grand Master.

Purity Vodka dominated the vodka category during 2013 with impressive wins at the Vodka Masters including three Masters’ Awards in the SUPER-PREMIUM, SMOOTH and MICRO DISTILLERY categories, and a Gold Medal in THE ORGANIC CATEGORY.  Purity Vodka was also named “BEST VODKA AND OVERALL SPIRIT” at the 2013 ASIAN SPIRITS MASTERS in addition to receiving high marks across all categories.

We congratulate Purity Vodka and Thomas Kuuttanen for winning the title of 2013 Grand Vodka Master. I am astonished how a small, hand-crafted brand as Purity Vodka is dominating international spirits competitions and for the third consecutive year becoming Vodka-of-the-Year. Purity Vodka has apparently cracked the code, and leads the industry toward a future where vodka no longer is a tasteless and odorless spirit, but equal with artisanal spirits with character and complexity,” said DAISY JONES, ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER OF THE SPIRITS BUSINESS AND ORGANIZER OF THE VODKA MASTERS.

THOMAS KUUTTANEN, MASTER BLENDER and creator of PURITY VODKA from Sweden added, “To be crowned the Grand Vodka Master in 2013 is a perfect ending to a remarkable year for Purity Vodka. It is obvious that consumers are steering away from industrial, neutral vodka and moving toward handcrafted spirits like Purity Vodka. Our ambition is to be the leader within the small, ultra-premium segment where quality always beats quantity.”

Amber Valletta is the face of H&M’s Conscious collections for spring

H&M is continuing its commitment to more sustainable fashion with two new collections – Conscious and Conscious Exclusive – in store from April 10, 2014. Both collections will star supermodel Amber Valletta, known for her interest in sustainability.

Amber Valletta_low

The Conscious Collection contains key fashion pieces, each made with materials that are more sustainable, such as organic cotton, Tencel®, hemp and recycled materials. It will be available in all H&M stores that carry womenswear, as well as online.

I’m very excited to work with the H&M Conscious campaign, because we share the same values about sustainability. This collection shows that you can be as mindful about people and the environment as fashion conscious. I simply love the designs and the fact that all the pieces are made with organic, recycled and cellulose fabrics shows that you don’t need to compromise fashion for sustainability anymore,” says Miss Valletta.

For this year’s Conscious Exclusive Collection, H&M is working in collaboration with the sustainable fashion and design think tank Ever Manifesto, which shares H&M’s commitment to a more sustainable future for fashion.

The dramatic and intricately detailed pieces in the Conscious Exclusive Collection show what can be done with more sustainable materials, taking a mix of flamenco and bohemia as inspiration. Conscious Exclusive will be available in 150 selected H&M stores worldwide, as well as online.

It’s great to engage with a brand like H&M that’s already aiming to lead the industry in making sustainable fashion mainstream, especially with such an elaborate and innovative  collection. To be able to support their Conscious teams and to implement and inspire positive change is a really exciting experience,” say Elizabeth von Guttmann and Alexia Niedzielski, Ever Manifesto.

Launch of First Application in New York to Track Organic Green Juices and Vegan Food

The application’s first market launch is in New York City to help promote healthy living in all boroughs

GreenHopping has launched its first IOS application in New York City; and unique in its market, the app is called GreenHoppingNYC. The application is designed for health conscious eaters who desires to maintain an organic and healthy diet in Green Hoppingthe city, and looks to inspire non-healthy eaters to reevaluate their food choices. GreenHopping is designed to track organic and non-organic “green juice” bars and stores in New York City. The application provides users an in-depth listing and locator of stores, juice bars and restaurants, categorizing each location depending on whether they offer bottled or freshly-pressed juices, smoothies, vegan, raw and gluten-free food options.

Given the rapid rate of market growth which resulted in a duplication of sales between 2004-2012, it is expected that the health conscious nutritional market continue to grow at a pace of between 4%-8% per year which would make it a 6 billion dollar industry by 2014 and a 10 billion dollar market by 2020, provided the trend does no accelerate, which it could. Major food giants are also acquiring market share, in an attempt to better suit consumer demands and as a result of its potential. Companies such as Campbell Soup, Starbucks and the founder of Shake Shack are rolling out programs that tap into this market.

GreenHopping seeks to promote the concept of looking at good food options not only as healthy, but trendy. “This is why the application also includes a “tip of the day” section, where users and influentials in the space can read about interesting cooking and diet tips, as well as vegetable and fruit facts,” says Catherine Cuello, GreenHopping’s founder and CEO. “After my health crisis in 2012, I was left with no option but to reevaluate my diet. Raw vegetables and fruits saved my life, and I hope to inspire others by raising awareness of the important role nutrition plays in our lives and health. I learned incredible facts about food, and its healing properties that never cease to amaze me,” she added. “I want to make healthy ‘mainstream’”.
