Neiman Marcus Presents The Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion To Karl Lagerfeld

Today, at a private luncheon in the Dallas flagship store, Neiman Marcus Group CEO Karen Katz presented Chanel Artistic Director Karl Lagerfeld with The Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion. The award, instituted in 1938 by Stanley Marcus, was developed to bring emerging designers from Europe and America into public awareness. The award is given to those who have made a distinctive contribution to the world of fashion by designing, promoting, or wearing fashion in a way that influences the public.

More than 100 luminaries have received the award since its inception. Past honorees include Coco Chanel, Princess Grace of Monaco, Estee Lauder, Bill Blass, Greer Garson, Oscar de la Renta, Giorgio Armani and Richard Avedon. Stanley Marcus received the Award at the Neiman Marcus gala celebrating his ninetieth birthday in 1995. Mr. Lagerfeld won the award in 1980 and is the first recipient to win the award twice.

The award was designed by celebrated American sculptor William King. The bronze sculpture symbolizes the unfettered spirit of freedom so essential to the fashion creator.

Today’s luncheon, hosted by Karen Katz, Jim Gold, president of Neiman Marcus Specialty Retail, and Anna Wintour, Condé Nast artistic director and editor-in-chief of Vogue, coincided with the Chanel Métiers d’Art show, which took place December 10th at Fair Park, Dallas’s historic exhibition venue.

2013 Holiday Gift Guide: Fretlight Guitar Announces Bass Model

Featuring The Breakthrough Fretlight Technology, The Fretlight Bass Guitar Makes the Perfect Gift of Music and Rhythm this Holiday

Fretlight Guitar announced it has expanded its product offering in time for the holidays with a bass guitar model, the FB-525 Bass. Invented in 1987 by Optek Music Systems founder and CEO Rusty Shaffer, the Fretlight Guitar has changed the way the world learns to play by combining advanced digital and LED technologies within the timeless form and function of classic electric, acoustic and bass guitars.

With the addition of the Fretlight bass to its existing electric and acoustic guitar line, Fretlight now offers something for everyone. The FB-525 features the world’s only built-in LED learning system that helps you learn how to play guitar and bass up to 10 times faster than traditional methods. The Fretlight learning system allows a player to light up songs, tabs, riffs and over five thousand chord and scale patterns, right on the neck of the Fretlight guitar.

For years, Fretlight has helped six-string guitar players of all levels take their skills to the next level,” said Shaffer. “Now, by popular demand, we are taking that same technology and learning system and applying it to the four-string bass. We can’t wait to hear success stories from beginner to advanced players around the world.”

The Fretlight bass is available in both right and left-hand models, and is finished with chrome hardware including a fixed bridge and a two-way truss rod. Fully adjustable bridge saddles give users complete adjustability for a superior playing experience, while the Advanced Polymer Fretboard and Stratabond(TM) neck gives tones a rich sustain that bass players dream about. Stratabond(TM) is a state-of-the-art engineered hardwood that yields uncommon strength and rigidity across ever-changing environmental conditions. The Fretlight bass gets big tone out of its single coil bridge pickup and classic “P” style neck humbucker. Controls include a 3-way pickup toggle switch, master volume and master tone.

By connecting through a PC or Mac, the Fretlight bass uses a combination of software and video instruction to dramatically simplify and accelerate the guitar mastery process. The video lessons can be slowed to a desired tempo, and looped so fingerings can be practiced at a comfortable pace, building muscle memory, retention and confidence. The new Fretlight bass starts at $499.99 and can be purchased at select retailers or online at For more information, also visit

U.S. News & World Report Votes Crystal Cruises #1 In Luxury And Romance

Crystal Cruises Sommelier

Crystal Cruises Sommelier

Consumer advice and news magazine, U.S. News & World Report, has voted Crystal Cruises #1 in seven categories of its first-ever “Best Cruises” rankings– more than twice the first-place wins of any other line.  Crystal won “Best Luxury Cruise Line” and “Best Line for Romance” in the overall Best Cruise Line categories, and dominated several ship itinerary-based rankings within Region, Traveler Type, and Budget categories, winning “Best Cruises…”: “…for Couples“; “…for Luxury; and “…in the Caribbean,” “…in Europe,” and “…in thePacific,” respectively.  The 2014 survey also praised the company’s “unparalleled customer service,” called out its “distinct voyages around the world,” and gave Crystal Symphony perfect 5’s in its Health and Overall Ratings within several lists.  The complete results, profiling lines that “consistently meet the highest expectations of passengers and critics,” are now available at the magazine’s website,

Boasting a long-earned reputation for high standards of unbiased methodology in its polls, the now-online publication added cruises to its venerable roster of “Best” schools, hospitals, and more to “help travelers find a cruise that caters to their specific needs.”  The “Best” were chosen based upon expert editors’ evaluations of onboard amenities, customer service, and lodging and dining options; customer satisfaction, including traveler approval MIDSIZE_SHIP_13ratings and reviews; and health ratings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  The rankings were then determined by lines’ Overall Score and quality combined with analysis of upcoming itineraries, price class, and reputation among specific traveler types, such as popularity among couples for the “Romance” category.

The magazine does their due diligence.  We appreciate their considering both guest experience and judges’ opinions, and the strict health evaluations by the U.S. Government–an arena in which we consistently earn high scores for cleanliness, maintenance, and health standards,” says Crystal President Edie Bornstein.  “After winning top honors within the travel industry for twenty+ years, it’s extremely gratifying to also be WBCS5recognized as such by, arguably, the top consumer industry surveyor in the world.”

The latest victories cap off a huge winning year for Crystal, with more than 35 awards in 2013, including Conde Nast Traveler’s “Best Cruise Line” (20th year), Gold List, and #1 and 2 “Top Cruise Ships in the World” (Midsize); Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best Large-Ship Cruise Line” (18 consecutive years) and “World’s Best Service” (Large-ship); and numerous international accolades for the line’s service, spa, dining, entertainment, design, marketing, and overall experience.  As a leader in the luxury hospitality industry, the company has earned more “World’s Best” awards than any other cruise line, resort, or hotel in history.

Aboard the ultra-chic Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, luxury and romance abound, with offerings such as all-inclusive dining, serving fine wines and Nobu Matsuhisa cuisine at a candlelit table for two; dancing, including lessons, in several intimate venues; a 360-degree promenade deck for handCrystal_Cruises_Waiter30005-in-hand strolling; in-Penthouse couples massage; quiet lounges and comfortable relaxation spaces throughout the ship; completely customizable Crystal Adventures ashore; fresh flowers, chocolates, and champagne delivered to one’s Penthouse by a personal butler; and in-suite breakfast enjoyed in a plush Egyptian Cotton linen bed or in a fresh Frette bathrobe, while enjoying one’s private verandah view.  This fall, the line introduced Crystal Celebrations as a unique way to capture the magic of a milestone with loved ones, from a wedding to big birthday, via custom destination event planning around the world.

Providing worldwide vacations of five to 100+ days that bridge the best of land and sea, itineraries through early 2016 sail to the Mediterranean, Western Europe, British Isles, Scandinavia/Baltic & Russia, North Cape & Arctic Circle, Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, South Pacific, South America, Antarctica, New England/Canada, Panama Canal, Caribbean, and a sumptuous annual World Cruise.  Until January 3, all-inclusive “Book Now” fares start at $1,215/person.

Imaging Resource Announces the Best Cameras and Lenses of 2013

Leading digital camera and lens review website has announced the winners of their annual Camera of the Year (COTY) awards, recognizing the site’s top rated picks in 13 categories, this year including multiple categories for mirrorless cameras. The cameras and lenses honored represent the very best from the camera

manufacturers, including Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Sony, while the awards guarantee sure-to-please choices for consumers and photo enthusiasts this holiday season.

For more than 15 years, Imaging Resource has combined deep, objective laboratory testing with hands-on real-world experience. IR’s reviews transcend technical specifics and pixel peeping to show readers what they can expect from their cameras in daily use. The COTY awards build on this in-depth review process and over a century of combined photo experience on the part of IR’s editors to showcase a wide variety of cameras, from family point-and-shoots to pro level cameras for seasoned side-line shooters.

Categories and winners for 2013 are:

 Best Overall Camera

—  Camera of the Year: Sony A7R

—  Cameras of Distinction: Sony A7, Olympus E-M1

Selecting the winner of our Camera of the Year Awards for 2013 was an exceptionally difficult task: competition was intense, with strong entries across the board. In the end, though, the greatest difficulty we faced was in choosing between the closely-related Sony A7R and A7 mirrorless cameras. The duo share much of their design and together they completely demolish the status quo. We came very close to calling it a tie, but in the end, the Sony A7R’s images swung it. With the higher-resolution sensor of the pair, the A7R’s photos show razor-sharp detail comparable to a medium-format camera. Yet this is no medium-format body: along with its sibling, the Sony A7R is the smallest full-frame, fully-featured interchangeable lens camera on the market by a country mile.

We’re thrilled that the age of the full-frame mirrorless camera is finally here and equally thrilled to name the Sony A7R our Best Camera of 2013! It’s hard to overstate just what the Sony A7R means to full-frame shooters who aren’t content to live with a single, fixed prime lens — even a great one — as in the Sony RX1. Until now, if you wanted both an interchangeable-lens design and a full-frame sensor with true through-the-lens (TTL) viewing, you needed to buy a big, bulky camera whose form factor was dictated by its mirror box. The high-resolution Sony A7R mirrorless camera changes everything. This full-frame ILC is discreet enough for the street shooter, yet it’s capable of capturing astounding detail. And thanks to its huge full-frame sensor, the Sony A7R can keep on shooting with available light when smaller-sensored cameras would have you reaching for the flash.” Continue reading

Co-Hosts of Food Network’s The Kitchen

Food Network kicks off the New Year with five times the food and fun in the brand-new series The Kitchen, co-hosted by culinary favorites Sunny Anderson, Katie Lee, Jeff Mauro, Marcela Valladolid and Geoffrey Zakarian.   From food trend discussions and family meal tips to trivia games and twitter questions from viewers, the entertaining one-hour, thirteen-episode series will cover all things culinary.

Each episode takes place in the show’s casual, inviting kitchen-living room set, where the five co-hosts come together for lively discussions, recipe demos, guest interviews and, at the close of each episode, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” a special cocktail segment with Chef Geoffrey Zakarian, also a master mixologist. Other recurring segments include: “Simple Suppers,” where hosts prepare an easy weeknight dinner dish along with tips and ideas; “Personal Faves” featuring co-hosts and their loved ones preparing a favorite family recipe; “Cookbook Club” welcomes cookbook author interviews and demos; and “Myth or Fact” where the co-hosts guess whether a common cooking belief is true or false. The Kitchen premieres Saturday, January 4th at 11am ET/PT.

Everyone knows all good parties end up in The Kitchen, where the conversation, laughs and food flow,” said Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Food Network.  “Sunny, Katie, Jeff, Marcela and Geoffrey each have a distinct food voice, engaging personality and sense of humor that together make The Kitchen a delicious way to spend an hour.”

While growing up traveling the world as an Army brat, Sunny Anderson’s parents always encouraged her to indulge in the local cuisine. When she joined the Air Force as a radio broadcaster and journalist, she continued her trek through the world for news stories while indulging in culinary finds along the way. After leaving the Air Force as an award-winning broadcaster, she continued her travels as a radio DJ in many cities, culminating in her dream job in New York at a number-one rated radio station. There, as a hobby she began cooking for her friends in the entertainment business and turned her growing client list into a catering company. That led to a guest appearance on Food Network’s Emeril Live! in 2005 and shortly after, she left her radio career and closed her catering business to focus on chasing yet another dream – sharing her recipes with the Food Network audience.  Her first show Gotta Get It, a food gadget show, premiered in 2007, followed by Cooking for Real, How’d That Get On My Plate and Home Made in America with Sunny Anderson. Her cooking style combines classic comfort foods along with unique flavors inspired by her many travels. With an understanding of everyday life and the belief that real people deserve down-to-earth, delicious meals, Sunny offers real food for real life. In September 2013, she released her New York Times Best Selling debut cookbook, “Sunny’s Kitchen: Easy Food for Real Life” (Clarkson Potter).  Sunny lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with her four rescue cats: Cheddar Cheese, Truffle Tycoon, Milky Mouth and Sea Salt.
