DINNER BY HESTON BLUMENTHAL, located at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, opened to outstanding acclaim in January 2011 and is ranked 7th in the World in The S. Pellegrino ‘World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013’. The restaurant received its second Michelin star in September of this year. HESTON BLUMENTHAL and FAT DUCK GROUP EXECUTIVE CHEF ASHLEY PALMER-WATTS worked with food historians and from research at the British library to rediscover recipes from celebrated British culinary history. The Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. has announced the launch of Muze Restaurant on December 2, 2013. The all-day dining restaurant, formerly Sou’Wester, will highlight the hotel’s oriental heritage and feature approachable cuisine that blends the best of local bounty and produce with flavors from South East Asia. When we watched a drop of cobalt sink into the hot glass the first time, we didn’t know what it would look like. Releasing a drop of cobalt blue into the glass only takes a millisecond. It’s added just as the molten glass goes into the mould at 1100°C. At that temperature, the cobalt is invisible, but as the glass cools off, a beautiful and unique blue infusion appears inside the glass of each bottle. Continue reading
