Fall Travel America 2013: The Dallas Arboretum Kicks Off “Autumn at the Arboretum” with a Pumpkin Village Filled with Over 50,000 Pumpkins, Gourds, and Squash

The Autumn at the Arboretum Festival is now open at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden with over 50,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash coming together to form the nationally-acclaimed Pumpkin Village. The term ‘everything is bigger in Texas’ directly applies to this blockbuster festival. The mission of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden (www.dallasarboretum.org) is to build and maintain a public venue that promotes the art, enjoyment and knowledge of horticulture, while providing opportunities for education and research. We are committed to excellence, good management and fiscal responsibility.

For the annual Autumn at the Arboretum, Four houses will form the Pumpkin Village with the Pumpkin Café, Peter’s Pumpkin House, The Gourd House, and Jack’s Pumpkin House with 23 types of pumpkins, 15 types of squash and 8 types of gourds. The popular Pumpkin Carriage will allow visitors a fairy-tale photo opportunity. The Oktoberfest Garden (11am-3pm), the quaint, outdoor Cafe on the Green serves a traditional German menu while guests enjoy the view of beautiful, full beds of fall color.

Activities will include Mommy and Me Mondays and Tiny Tot Tuesdays (10am-2pm every Monday & Tuesday through Nov. 26. Featuring a petting zoo, nature art, face painting and Kindermusik (12-12:30pm); Harvest Tea through Nov. 27 (seating at 11am & 2pm. Their new book captures Lou in the studio, performing onstage, in his hotel room, and with friends including David Bowie, Nico, Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop and Andy Warhol.

Lou and Mick discuss the photographs and their friendship in a completely original, no-holds-barred dialogue. Lou Reed tells the truth behind the sartorial gestures, innovative stage set-ups, subversive acts and legendary albums that made him one of the most intriguing artists in modern music.

Their collaboration will be showcased in a 11.5″ x 15.5″ large format volume, traditionally craftsman-bound by hand. Lou and Mick’s Transformer image is recreated on the cover, with a variety of foil detailing and gilt page edging. The book is presented in a slipcase and will include an exclusive 7” picture disc of the Lou Reed classics ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ and ‘Coney Island Baby’.

Guests were welcomed in to an extraordinary evening, in a fantasy landscape echoing the English countryside, the concept for which was taken from Vertu’s vibrant new advertising campaign shot by renowned photographer Kristian Schuller. Headlining the evening’s entertainment were Goldfrapp, who treated guests to a fabulous set, including tracks from their recently released album, Tales of Us. The glamorous evening event was attended by a whole host of international guests from across the worlds of art, fashion and design including Alison Goldfrapp, Dylan Jones, Caroline Rush, Tony Chambers, Emma McQuiston, Nicholas Coleridge and Melissa Odabash.
