Artspace.com Launches Online Preview of 2013 EXPO CHICAGO, the International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art

Platform to offer Insider Access to Collectors Worldwide

 EXPO CHICAGO, the International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, will Once Again Present Over 125 Leading International Galleries at Festival Hall at Navy Pier.

Starting September 9, Artspace is offering collectors around the world first access to preview over 600 works showcased by 100 of EXPO’s premier galleries, to facilitate acquisitions leading up to and throughout the fair, September 19 – 22.

Art Expositions, LLC presents EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art EXPO-CHGO(www.expochicago.com). Situated at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall (600 E. Grand Ave.), Sept. 19 – 22, this four-day art event features over 120 leading international galleries and offers diverse programming including /DIALOGUES, IN/SITU and EXPOSURE. These exceptional galleries represent 17 different countries and 36 different cities, offering a broad spectrum of modern and contemporary artwork.

Building on the success of the exposition’s inaugural year, EXPO CHICAGO/2013 will ensure Chicago’s place as an annual international fair destination. Under the leadership of President and Director Tony Karman, EXPO CHICAGO draws upon the city’s rich history as a vibrant destination for arts and culture helping to define the contemporary art community in Chicago while inspiring the city’s collector base. Vernissage, the opening night preview benefiting the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago takes place Thursday, Sept 19. General Admission to the exposition is Friday, Sept. 20 – Sunday, Sept. 22.

Led by Macarthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, Studio Gang Architects returns for the redesign of the second annual exposition. Studio Gang’s design for EXPO CHICAGO’s interior environment brings clarity, efficiency, comfort, and energy to the fair. The floor plan, patterned after the city’s gridded streets and lined with exhibition spaces, enables visitors to view every gallery in sequence without losing their way. This redesign includes EXPO VIDEO, an exhibition area and lounge, highlighting the work of multiple video artists. Natural wood display stands and log seating define the lounge space without obstructing views to the galleries beyond. EXPO CHICAGO’s commitment to design continues with the addition of “Bend,” a series of upholstered foam elements that provide seating under the main center atrium, designed by the renowned firm Snarkitecture, in partnership with Volume Gallery of Chicago along with their unique display fixtures designed for the Museum of Contemporary Art Pop-Up Bookstore at EXPO CHICAGO.

Recognizing the importance of both established and emerging galleries, EXPO CHICAGO also presents EXPOSURE, a special section of the fair reserved for newer galleries. Each gallery will highlight one or two artists from their program. This is a fantastic opportunity for these emerging galleries to gain critical visibility and for visitors to discover new talent. In 2013, all participating galleries must have been in operation for seven years or less.

program returns under the direction of Shamim M. Momim, Director, Curator, and Co-Founder, of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division).  IN/SITU showcases the work throughout Festival Hall.

Presented in partnership with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), /Dialogues
is a year-round program of symposia, panel discussions, and provocative artistic discourse. The series will culminate with informative and thought-provoking daily events during the fair, highlighting the field’s leading artists, architects, curators, designers and arts professionals and the current issues that engage them.

EXPO CHICAGO is partnering with the city’s leading visual arts organizations and institutions on and off the show floor. Art and museum partners to date offering special viewings include: Arts Club of Chicago, Art Institute of Chicago, ACRE Residency, Bad At Sports, Chicago Architectural Foundation, Chicago Artists’ Coalition, Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Graham Foundation, Hyde Park Art Center, Museum
of Contemporary Art Chicago, National Museum of Mexican Art, The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago,
and the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago, to name a few.

Founded in March 2011 by Christopher Vroom and Catherine Levene, www.Artspace.com is the premier online platform where collectors can purchase works by top contemporary artists directly from leading commercial galleries and prestigious cultural institutions. As a part of the Artspace Limited Edition series, the company’s curators also commission exclusive works of art directly from the most exciting artists working today including Lawrence Weiner, Peter Coffin, Wangechi Mutu and Marcel Dzama, working closely with the artists, their studios and master printers to produce work of exceptional quality in small editions.

Artspace will educate and engage collectors with top editorial content prior to and during EXPO CHICAGO.  The site will feature highlighted works at the fair selected by a group of esteemed international curators and collectors. Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, ICA Boston, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among others. Computers and iPads will be available to explore the fair online and to browse the contents by artist, gallery, price point, etc.
