CELEBRATE THE CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR: THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE BRINGS CULTURAL ART TO LIFE THROUGH POSTAGE STAMPS AT ‘THE MUSEUM OF CHINESE IN AMERICA’ THIS SATURDAY

The UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE will be joining the MUSEUM OF CHINESE IN AMERICA (215 Centre St New York, NY 10013, Located between Howard and Grand St one block north of Canal St) during their festivities (11 a.m.-6:00 p.m.) of the Lunar New Year Saturday, February 2, to celebrate the launch of the 2013 addition to the CELEBRATING THE LUNAR NEW YEAR SERIES.

This year’s stamp features one of the primary ways the Lunar New Year holiday is celebrated. For the YEAR OF THE SNAKE, which begins on Feb. 10, the illustration depicts firecrackers commonly used to greet the New Year with a bang.

The Postal Service introduced the CELEBRATING LUNAR NEW YEAR SERIES in 2008 and this is the sixth stamp in that series, which will continue through 2019 with the Years of the Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar. The current series builds upon the Postal Service’s original LUNAR NEW YEAR STAMP SERIES, which was issued from 1992 through 2003. Continue reading

All across America, thousands of local businesses, community groups, hospitals, towns and schools,  and millions of men, women and children will be wearing red on FEBRUARY 1ST to help raise awareness and funds to fight – the number one killer of women – CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE. The campaign is part of the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION’S 10TH ANNUAL WEAR RED DAY in which participants wear red, donate $5.00 to join the GO RED FOR WOMEN® (http://goredforwomen.org/wearredday/index.html) movement and receive a red dress pin, all to help raise awareness of heart disease.

Women can “Go Red” by wearing a red dress, red t-shirt, or even red shoes to help us fight this No. 1 killer. Men can “Go Red” by wearing a red tie or red shirt.

In 2003, the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/) faced a challenge: CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel these myths of heart disease as the No. 1 killer of women, the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, along with the NATIONAL HEART, LUNG AND BLOOD INSTITUTE created NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY® to raise awareness of this critical issue. Each year, on the first Friday in February, millions of women and men come together to wear red, take action and commit to fighting this deadly disease.

BOUNCE TV (www.bouncetv.com), the nation’s first-ever broadcast television network for African Americans, will honor BLACK HISTORY MONTH in February with “OUR HISTORY,” a month-long programming tribute which includes documentaries, specials and a new original short-form series called “Memories of My Father” featuring MARTIN LUTHER KING III sharing his personal memories and impressions of his father, the REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.  THE CHRYSLER MOTOR COMPANY will sponsor Bounce TV’s OUR HISTORY tribute.

The “Memories of My Father” segments were filmed in EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH where Reverend King, Jr. began his ministry.  Mr. King III, who is among the FOUNDING GROUP and BOARD OF DIRECTORS of Bounce TV, commented, “Bounce TV celebrates the African American community every day of the year.
